The preschool years are the most critical in the formation of values. Here at Royal Academy, we offer a Values Based Education.

Royal Academy is a private preschool that offers a Values Based Educational Experience for children ages 2 1/2 to 5 years old at 536 South State Street in Orem, UT. This does not mean that we focus less on academics, but instead it means that values are reinforced in every aspect of the academic learning process. For example, while learning reading, writing, and math, students are taught to be res

Word of the Week - GRATITUDE

Photos from Royal Academy Preschool's post 10/17/2025

Value of the week: GRATEFUL
Letter of the week: G

Last week at Royal Academy, our students explored one of life’s most beautiful values—GRATITUDE. We helped the children understand that gratitude means noticing and being thankful for the good things in our lives—the people we love, the fun we share, and the wonderful world around us. In our 8 classes of Life Coaching, Life Skills, Music, Art, Movement, Science, Academic Core, and Kitchen, the children learned to appreciate life’s simple joys. Here are a few of the things we did:

In ART, we explored different textures and materials to create a tactile art collage. We used soft, rough, smooth, and bumpy items they could both see and feel. This activity built sensory awareness and empathy. As children imagine what life might be like without sight, they grow more thankful for their eyes and develop compassion for others. Affirmation: "I am grateful that I can see and touch."

In MUSIC, we experienced different rhythm instruments, songs, and a fun "silent" game. The students learned how their ears help them enjoy music and sounds. Learning to notice both sound and silence teaches mindfulness and listening skills while building appreciation for their ears and ability to hear. Affirmation: "I am grateful that I can hear music and sounds."

In LIFE SKILLS, the students made thank-you cards for someone they care about. Practicing gratitude through giving helps children understand kindness and the joy of making others feel appreciated. Affirmation: "I am grateful for (the person they made the card for)."

in SCIENCE, the students rotated through five "sense stations: mixing colors, listening to shaker sounds, smelling scents, tasting apples, and feeling mystery objects. These experiments spark curiosity, encourage scientific thinking, and teach gratitude for the incredible ways our senses help us explore our beautiful world. Affirmation: "I am grateful that I can explore our beautiful world."

Value of the week: PERSISTENT
Letter of the week: P
In KITCHEN today, we practiced being persistent by making homemade butter. This process of rigorously shaking the jar full of ingredients until the butter is formed takes a lot of patience, energy, and persistence. If you quit before it is done, you never get the butter. Once the butter was done, each student was able to learn how to spread butter on a small piece of bread and have it for a snack.
In LIFE SKILLS today, we learned how to zip up a zipper, how to button a shirt, and how to fold towels. Each student practiced these difficult tasks without giving up. For the older students, we also practiced tying shoes.
In ART today, we read the book Rosie Revere Engineer about a little girl who didn’t give up on her idea for a new flying machine invention. Each student practiced persistence as they built their own flying machine using foam, paper, paper straws, tape, glue, stickers, and pipe cleaners.

FIRST WEEK OF SUMMER SCHOOL
Topic for the week: The Importance of Water
Water is an important resource for people, animals, and the environment. Water helps keep us clean, healthy, and happy!
Core: We reviewed all the letters and their sounds, and reviewed the numbers 1-10. We also continued to practice spelling and writing each student's name.
Life Coaching: We discussed all the ways that water is important for humans, animals, and plants, and why it is important to conserve and protect it.
Life Skills: We learned to sort clothes and put a load of wash in the washing machine. We also learned to wash dishes in the kitchen sink, and reviewed proper hand washing and teeth brushing.
Movement: We had fun outside with water! We used water squirters and watering cans to water the bushes, trees, and flowers. We pretended to be firefighters that use water to put out fires, and also pretended to go fishing.
Science: We learned about the water cycle (evaporation, clouds, rain, etc).
Art: We did an art project using watercolor paint.
Kitchen: We learned how to boil water to steam vegetables. We then ate steamed peas.
Affirmation: I am grateful for water!

Announcing our new Corporate Discount Program!

Offering an employee benefit of discounted or free childcare is an important aspect of any company's benefits package. Employee retention is increased when employees feel that their employer understands the importance of taking care of their young children.

We offer a high-quality preschool experience for children ages 2 1/2 to 5 years old. We also have the ability to offer childcare for children of younger ages on an as-needed basis. If enough of your employees have needs for this service, we can discuss the details of the younger child care option.

We offer multiple options for companies to offer a childcare benefit to their employees:

Level 1:
We can offer a 20% discount if your employees come together, perhaps with your facilitating help, to fill the equivalent of 1 entire class of 12 full-time students (or its equivalent). This is a significant savings for the employees, and there is NO cost to the company for this option.

Level 2:
We can offer a 35% discount if you have enough employee interest to fill an entire class of 12 full-time students (or its equivalent) and the company agrees to pay the tuition costs. We offer this extra discount as an incentive for companies to make the investment to pay for this employee benefit.

We invite you to visit our website to learn how we are different from other schools due to our focus on values, good character development, and emotional intelligence along with traditional academics. We are confident that this focus is very much in-line with the values that your company espouses as well, so you can feel confident in recommending our service to your employees.

We would be happy to meet with you in person or by phone to discuss this program further and to answer any questions you may have.

Value for the week: LOVE
Letter of the week: L
In LIFE COACHING today, we performed an experiment where we added a small amount of a dry substance into a glass jar. When we added water to it, the substance expanded to 100 times its original size. We discussed how the jar is like our lives, the dry substance is like the activities we do each day, and LOVE is like the water. When love is added to the things we do in our lives, it expands our happiness and makes for a more fulfilling life.
In KITCHEN today, we shelled peas and ate them. We discussed how the peas need to grow in the safety of the pod because they would not be able to grow by themselves outside the pod. We compared this to family, close friends, and our school class that provide love and support to us as we grow. We then asked them "Who is in your pod with you?", and encouraged them to show love and appreciation to all those that love and support them.
In ART today, we created a Shower of Love craft project that shows raindrops coming down from a gray cloud. We asked each student the question "Who loves you?" and wrote the names of the people inside each raindrop on the student's project. We discussed that during times that they are feeling sad or scared (when clouds are gray), they can remember all the people that love them and it will feel like a shower of love raining down on them.

Value for the week: RESPONSIBILITY
Letter of the week: R
In ART today, we read a book about trees, discussed why they are important to us, and learned how we can be responsible to our planet by recycling paper so fewer trees are cut down. We then made leaf print paintings using leafs as our paint brushes.
In MOVEMENT today, we practiced responsibility, teamwork, and color sorting by seeing which teams could clean up a bunch of toys the quickest. Making chores and cleanup time fun can help children learn to enjoy work and be more responsible.
In LIFE SKILLS today, we reminded them that being responsible includes helping with chores at home, and then we learned how to rake leaves.

Value for the week: PERSISTENCE
Letter of the week: P
In ART today, we learned about Michelangelo and how persistent he had to be to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The students created their own masterpieces while laying on their backs and painting on the underside of a table.
In MOVEMENT today, we showed a quick video about a few athletes who didn't win at the Olympics at first but didn't give up on winning a medal. They kept practicing and practicing and tried again (sometimes years later) and eventually won medals. We then had our own Olympic games and practiced being persistent and not giving up, even if at first we didn't succeed at an event.
In KITCHEN today, we learned how to wash, peel, and slice carrots. The students practiced persistence because it takes practice and a whole lot of little slices over and over again to peel a carrot.

Value for the week: KINDNESS
In LIFE SKILLS today, we discussed and practiced chores we can do in the classroom and at home to show our love and kindness.
In SCIENCE today, we discussed the many ways we can show kindness to the earth and animals. We discussed recycling, and we also released our butterflies that we have been caring for since they were caterpillars.
