Shakespeare did not write Hadestown. And yet…
It’s an old song.
I first saw Hadestown in December 2019, right before Broadway and the world locked down with covid. I saw the show again in SF and in Sacramento, and again on Broadway last October. It is a perfect tale of Orpheus falling in love with Eurydice. Hades keeps Persephone in the underworld for six months of the year, a prisoner of his love. These timeless Greek myths are woven with New Orleans jazz to create Hadestown.
It’s an old song….
