Our students have been BUSY — and the results are impressive. First they designed and crafted their very own cube animals. Then they calculated the volume of their critters using real math. Then they dove into research books to build the perfect habitat for their new animal friends.

And they're not done yet! Coming up next — a research paper covering diet, habitat, predators, and more.

This is what project-based learning looks like at YES Charter — science, math, reading, writing, and creativity all woven together in one unforgettable project. 🌿📚

We're so proud of these young scientists, mathematicians, and builders!

The time of the year we've been waiting for is here! 🌟

To every family joining the YES Charter Academy community for the first time — welcome home. To our returning families — welcome back. We've been busy all summer building extraordinary experiences for your students, and we can't wait to share them with you.

New programs. New faces. New possibilities. Same heart.

Our doors, our arms, and our community are wide open. Here's to an incredible year ahead — together.

Imagine a high school student enrolled in their regular courses earning valuable industry certifications, college credits, and fulfilling college prep (a-g) requirements.

YESHS curriculum is strategically designed for students to accomplish this!

The bottom line is that Yuba County high school students can graduate with the certs, the college credits, and college prep in a supportive, small class size environment.

We are having lots of fun in our Extended Learning Opportunity Program (ELOP) and After Care this summer!
This week (our final week of the summer program), students assembled birdhouses and painted them.
Everyone loved this activity, and we plan to build and decorate more birdhouses after the school year begins.

This week, it's all about pollinators, food webs, and microscopes!

Students began their Pollinators and Food Webs unit by looking at some living pollinators up close.

They learned how to prepare wet slide specimens and use their microscopes to examine the tiniest structures that make up our natural world.

Today, a student in our ELOP summer session (Extended Learning Opportunity Program) took a moment to observe the natural world in between gathering data.

The group of students, from 6th to 11th grade, compared water quality in three locations at Lake Francis to water quality in our school pond.

They found that the pH and oxygen levels in this large, fish-filled lake are much different than in our pond that is home to mostly amphibians.

YES students study outside every day, and they learn to take observations to the next scientific level. They get the opportunity to get REAL DATA answers to their questions!

In our Summer Camp ELOP (Extended Learning Opportunity Program), students are getting hands-on field experience with visiting biologist Casey Nielsen from Wolf Creek Community Alliance. (WolfCreekAlliance.org)

Students learn how to test water for pH, electrical conductivity, and dissolved oxygen---all indicators of water health.

Today, they compared drinking water to our on-site pond right here at school. Later they'll test local waterways such as Lake Francis and Bullards Bar Reservoir.

Each grade level brings a new depth of knowledge for our students. From modeling to data analysis, YES students are real scientists!
