🍁 October Highlights at EduCare Preschool! 🍁

What a fun-filled month we've had! Here's a look at what we've been up to:

🧹 Fall-Themed Activities
Our little learners explored the wonders of autumn with leaf and pumpkin sensory tables, spooky sticker art, and bubble wrap bat painting. Everybody brought an orange, white it yellow snack to share and one day, we had crackers in themed cookie cutters!

📚 Literacy and STEM Adventures
We dove into fall-themed stories and songs and expanded our STEM learning with experiments like pumpkin sink or float, weighing, measuring, stacking and rolling pumpkins.

🎃 Spooktacular Fun
The children loved dressing up in our costumes, decorating pumpkins, wearing their Halloween pajamas, and dancing to songs about skeleton bones, zombies and ghosts.

🌿 Outdoor Play
The cooler weather made for perfect mornings in our Outdoor Classroom, where the kids explored nature by making potions, sand pies and cupcakes with leaves, rocks, colored liquids and sticks.

🥧 ✨Pumpkin Pie Scented Shaving Cream ✨🥧

At EduCare Preschool, we believe in emergent curriculum and the power of hands-on exploration to spark curiosity and creativity! Our shaving cream activity is a favorite with the kids and comes packed with benefits:

✋ Sensory Development: The fluffy, smooth texture of shaving cream offers a fantastic sensory experience, helping children explore new textures and practice fine motor skills as they squeeze, spread, and mold.

🔍 Early Science Exploration: Adding colors or objects to shaving cream introduces scientific concepts like mixing, color changes, and even cause and effect—turning playtime into a mini science lab!

✏️ Pre-Writing Skills: Drawing shapes, letters, or numbers in shaving cream is a fun way for little hands to practice pre-writing without a pencil or paper. It’s a great prep for building future writing skills.

🧼 Clean-Up Is Part of the Fun: Cleaning hands and tables afterward reinforces self-care and responsibility in a way they love!

D is for - Developmentally Appropriate.

Our classroom environment, daily schedule, menus, free choice activities, directed lessons, group times, teaching techniques, classroom management systems, behavior intervention strategies, and assessment methods are all based on developmentally appropriateness.

Children have a plethora of opportunities to explore at their own pace but their learning experiences are also individualized and scaffolded to ensure just the right combination of mastery and challenges. We teach children to be independent and autonomous, while also modeling conflict resolution and problem solving skills needed in social settings.

At EduCare, our philosophy is that children learn through play, relationships and routines - all of which are provided through a lens of being developmentally appropriate.

E is for environment - the classroom is a child's third teacher. Last month, we had rubber LEGO blocks, wood blocks, people figures and cars in the block center + wood foods to cut, hair salon props, soft emotions dolls in the dramatic play center. We explored weighing squares and rings, lined up numbers, and twisted nuts onto bolts. We read so many books and lots of them reminded us that hands are not for hitting, teeth are not for biting and words are not for hitting. We tracked dinosaurs in finger mazes, counted and sorted them, and really tried to learn how to use tongs.

Literacy, science, math, manipulatives, fine motor, and imaginative play teach us (almost) everything we need to know.
