Meet Austin! He is the SUNY Erie Hunter Engineering Company Sales Rep.

Q1: The Origin Story
I traded my old Miata over the winter for a 2003 Nissan 350Z after hitting up Big Indian Drift Pit in summer ‘25 and realizing I wanted to participate, not just watch. People might also know me from my work ride: my 23’ Ford E450 Hunter Engineering demo box truck, fully loaded with a Maverick Tire Changer and Road Force Balancer to visit local shops!

Q2: Specs & Favorite Mod
The Z has a fully upgraded suspension (angle kit, coilovers, sway bars, toe arms), welded diff, new cooling hoses, and a lightweight pulley. My absolute favorite mod is the Momo Racing Bucket Seat—it keeps me locked in so I can actually focus on driving instead of sliding around the factory leather. Plus, I added neon underglow for total Need for Speed Underground 2 nostalgia.

Q3: Personality & Quirks
Right now, I’m working through some front-end suspension clunks and harshness. Since I’m towing the line between a street car and a drift track machine, normal drivability gets compromised. Tuning it to be decent around town while performing well on the track is always a balancing act!

Q4: Local Spot & Vibe
I’ve been spending a lot of time testing and practicing at Big Indian Drift Pit this summer. It’s an awesome, safe resource to slide around without risking run-ins with the law, accompanied by some high-energy tunes.

Q5: Origin & Advice for Young Builders
My passion started young with Lego, Hot Wheels, and R/C cars. My advice? Start simple and inexpensive—you can’t go wrong with a Japanese car or a Miata. Building gets pricey fast, and in racing, owners often wrench more than they drive (which is why I rent my race cars instead of buying!). With drifting, since no one rents them out, I built this Z to hit both the street and the track.

Our newest cohort had their orientation right where their future takes shape, inside their classroom at the Northtown Jaguar and Land Rover store. With their learning space embedded right in the dealership and hands-on training opportunities across Northtown’s facilities, these students are set up for success like nowhere else.

Yesterday we officially kicked off student orientation here at Northland Workforce Training Center, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome our newest cohort. Your future starts now—let’s get to work!

Quick Program Details:

Meet Melia—a 2026 SEACO program graduate, West Herr employee, and proud owner of this 2018 Subaru WRX!

The Origin Story: I was shopping for a WRX STI when my mom sent me this listing. I’ll admit, I laughed at the hexagons—but a few days later, I was driving down to Virginia to buy it and drive it home. It was meant to be!

The Specs: 2.5L turbocharged flat-4, 6-speed manual, and that signature huge spoiler that turns heads everywhere. My only engine mod is an AOS, and the personality of this car is all about those unique hexagon details.

Pro Tip for Young Enthusiasts: Buy the older, fun car first—the Miata or that early 2000s gem—to make memories, then upgrade to the modern speed later. Cars are expensive, but the memories last way longer.

Meet Lysa and her stunning classic Camaro!
Featured at the SUNY Erie Cruise Night, this gorgeous ride carries a deeply special meaning.

The Origin Story: After always wanting a classic car, this Camaro popped up at a local dealership online. When her father-in-law passed away, they knew it had to come home as a remembrance of him.

Under the Hood: Powered by a numbers-matching 350 small block Chevy engine with an automatic transmission. The favorite mod? A new cam that gives it an incredible upgraded sound, complemented by a showstopping paint job!

Best Cruise Spot: Heading down to the WNY waterfront for food or ice cream with “Kill the Lights” by The Glorious Sons playing on the drive.

Advice for Young Enthusiasts: “Keep trying! Every roadblock is a learning experience, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.” Lysa’s own passion started from “holding the flashlight” for her dad, a mechanic, and spending nights at Lancaster Speedway.

We had a fantastic turnout last night at our student orientation and vendor tool show. It was so good to meet the new students, welcome them to the program, and see their excitement for this upcoming year. Big thanks to our vendors from Lake Side Tool, Snap On and Napa “The Parts Store”. We are officially ready and excited to welcome everyone to campus for their first day on September 4!
