Orchard Lake St. Mary's is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Josh Schaffer as The Head Varsity Coach of our Boys Division Hockey Program.

Josh is a 2003 Graduate of St. Mary's Prep, where he served as Captain of our team his Junior and Senior seasons, totaling more than 100 points as a varsity player. Josh was inducted into The Detroit Catholic High School League's (CHSL) Hall of Fame in 2008.

Upon the completion of his High School Career, Coach Schaffer went on to attend The United States Air Force Academy, where he played in 137 games as The Academy captured the 2007 and 2008 Atlantic Hockey Association Championships in consecutive seasons, reaching The NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in Air Force Program history.

Josh's off-ice career includes earning a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering Management from Air Force Academy and a Masters in Business Administration, among other commendations. Josh's experience as a Fighter Pilot in serving our nation totals more than 2500 hours of combat missions in over 100 countries around the world. Josh has piloted 10 different aircraft in his service to our nation as an Air Force Pilot. Most recently, Josh has served as Assistant Coach of our Eaglets Varsity Team under Head Coach Brian Klanow, who will remain with St. Mary's as Director of Hockey Operations and Manager of The St. Mary's Athletic Complex (SMAC) Ice Arena.

The Orchard Lake Schools are proud and honored to welcome one of our own — Coach Josh Schaffer — in his role as Varsity Head Hockey Coach and welcome Josh, his wife and four children to our program as key members of our 141-year school mission of God - Family - St. Mary's.

This weekend, our varsity hockey team travelled to the University of Notre Dame to kick off the 2025-26 season, where they won matchups with the Culver Military Academy (Indiana) and St. Ignatius (Ohio). 🦅
