THE ARCHIVES
I could not just house these images like they were a database of classroom assignments. These need to be shared and enjoyed by whomever visits these pages.
I have been blessed over the years to watch many young people discover they had always possessed an untapped natural ability hidden from them only because nobody had previously suggested to them that they did indeed have such a thing. If you start with the belief that these beautiful young humans can do pretty much anything and then go about the work necessary for them to reach the point where they convinced themselves that it is true - well, that’s it right there!
Here is a 25 year collection of wide-ranging work that shows the power of such a simple premise.

THE PAINTINGS
If I was forced to reveal my favorite class it might just be the Advanced 2 Painting class. It was, oddly enough, the class that I did the least amount of actual teaching. I was always telling students, if you can draw well then you can paint well. Every year the painters in this class put that aphorism to the test and for the most part all I did was stand back and watch it happen.
These remarkable paintings span over two decades and I will never tire of looking at them. Some of the photos have been lost to the ages so if I apologize to you painters as some are missing.

MURALS
We had a fairly long running mural program at Casa that gave some students the opportunity to face a new and challenging work environment. What these artists encountered when they accepted the challenge was an enlarged format, new materials and a surface that was not always inviting. As you can see they were up to the task.
This last year the art department was asked by the administration to provide a list of murals and their locations for the construction company in order to save as many as possible during the reconstruction of the campus. It is our hope, of course, that most of these murals will be saved from destruction.

Here they are...

2019 - 2020
Hello all !
This is Matthew Buckley here and once gain it has been too long since I put up any work for you. My apologies. I am and will probably remain a procrastinator.
This is a special post for me as it will be my last. Twenty-five years of opening the C-3 door every morning came to an end this spring and I am now blissfully unemployed.
I’ll write a few words at the end of these posts but for now lets look at some amazing work from the amazing artists of the Casa Drawing and Painting program. First up is work from this final school year, 2019-2020, starting with the Beginning class and finishing with the Advanced 1 class.
As you look at the Beginning class you will no doubt recognize the repetition of the source images. This was done somewhat on purpose. Good quality photographic images that can give the student a wide range of practical color and value problems to solve in one compact picture are hard to find and so I tended to hold on to them. The other reason is it took me a few years to get to know the images intimately enough to know how to best to help them see the patterns, values and colors and what little tricks worked the best. You will see that different artists can reproduce the same image and come up with individual solutions.

Well, it has been a long while since I've put up some student work. I won't give any excuses 'cause they're all lies anyway! These hard working young humans never cease to amaze me with their efforts. Despite the fears, doubts, and hesitations, they push aside their shaky confidence and journey into the unknown. The results are pretty dang amazing. And they keep raising the bar every year, year after year.
These are not in any particular order. There are more on the way. Enjoy.
