Just one week till Freshman Move-In Day! 🗓️ Our residence halls have fresh paint and have been spruced up for the new school year. Our Resident Assistants arrived last week for training and are decorating the hallway bulletin boards and putting names on the rooms. We are so excited to welcome the Class of 2030!! 🙌🙌

Welcome Women’s Field Hockey 🏑 as the 19th Dominican University sport!! 🎉It’s great to have these athletes on campus gearing up for the fall season with training, practices, and drills. They face off against American International College in their first home game on Monday, September 7, at 3 p.m. on O’Brien Field. Go Chargers! 👏👏

Congratulations to nursing student Kristen Siegel on winning the 2026 Bill Lawrence Award in The Mount Sinai Hospital Student Nurse Internship Program. 👏👏 The award honors a student who is dedicated to the nursing profession and displays caring and compassion. Kristen interned at Mount Sinai Morningside. This is the second year in a row that a Dominican University student has won this award.

Dominican University Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) students took part in a simulated disaster drill with Rockland County EMS 🚑 today. The students responded to a simulated car accident on campus that left multiple victims. They put their learning into practice as they did rapid assessment, prioritization, and emergency response on victims. Then students headed back to the classroom for a debriefing with Rockland County EMS Coordinator Desiree Leone-Stoll. What an invaluable experience for our students! Thank you to the EMS professionals for sharing their expertise.

Vietnam War veterans Howard Goldin and Edward Frank – our 2025 Veritas Award recipients - brought Dominican Sisters from Vietnam to campus and the nearby Convent recently. The veterans had helped the Sisters rebuild a school destroyed by the war and founded a nonprofit organization called S.T.E.P. or Schools to End Poverty, sponsored by the Spring Valley Rotary. S.T.E.P. has built additional schools in Vietnam and around the world. During their recent visit with Dominican University President Manuel Martínez, Ph.D., the Vietnamese Sisters discussed a plan for a few Sisters to study at the University and live in the Motherhouse.

Our Division of Nursing is welcoming a familiar face as its new Director. Dr. AnneMarie McDermott has been appointed to the position left vacant by the sudden passing of Dr. Nancy DiDona. Dr. McDermott has worked at Dominican University for 19 years in a variety of roles, most recently heading up Graduate Nursing Programs since 2021. In addition to her academic leadership, Dr. McDermott is active in clinical practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner, which allows her to bring evidence-based practice into the classroom. She is widely respected by colleagues and students for her knowledge, professionalism, work ethic, and kindness. University President Dr. Manuel Martínez also announced that Dr. Lynne Weissman will be returning to Dominican University to fill the position of Director of Graduate Nursing Programs, a position she held from 2012 - 2021. Congratulations to Dr. McDermott and Dr. Lynne Weissman!
