As you all probably know, I have resigned from the school board. I am putting my comments here that I read at the school board meeting tonight:
From the day I joined the board, I was faced with an extremely challenging situation. Some members refused to speak to me or even acknowledge my presence. The board members have a responsibility to work with each other to serve the students and teachers. I truly don’t understand how a board can function effectively under such circumstances. Mr. Finn, I appreciate that you were at least cordial, and I thank you for that.
A board should be made up of individuals with diverse ideas, experiences, and perspectives. I was the only member with any educational background, particularly nearly 40 years of experience working with students with special needs and their families. This expertise could have been a great asset to the district, but unfortunately, the real loss here is for the students.
I listened to community members. I hold myself accountable for my actions and I apologized.
The community survey highlighted that bullying remains a significant issue in the district, and it is clear that this problem starts at home. I am well aware of the malicious posts made on Facebook during and after both of my election campaigns. I’ve seen the negative commentary attached to pictures of my family, as well as other harmful posts. Additionally, I received the hostile emails sent to the board. These, along with the posts, will be reviewed by my attorney.
To those who supported me and reached out amidst the harassment and bullying, I sincerely thank you. You give me hope for the future of this community.
