Join Us on Feb 6, at the Fowler School of Law for the Eggert & Strang debate: Does Originalism Work? Presented by the Chapman Law Review this debate will discuss how originalism may change the scope and power of the administrative state, and specifically whether the Supreme Court should prevent Congress from delegating rule-making power to federal agencies through the Nondelegation Doctrine and so rein in those agencies’ power.

In our three-part series, Chapman Law Review is proud to present Dean Erwin Chemerinsky of Berkeley Law as our keynote speaker.

Erwin Chemerinsky is Dean and Jesse H. Choper Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. Prior to assuming this position, from 2008-2017, he was the founding Dean and Distinguished Professor of Law, and Raymond Pryke Professor of First Amendment Law, at the University of California, Irvine School of Law. Before that, he was the Alston and Bird Professor of Law and Political Science at Duke University from 2004-2008, and from 1983-2004 was a professor at the University of Southern California Law School, including as the Sydney M. Irmas Professor of Public Interest Law, Legal Ethics, and Political Science. From 1980-1983, he was an assistant professor at DePaul College of Law.

In our three-part symposium series, Chapman Law Review is proud to present our first panel topic, “Originalism in Flux,” this Friday at 10:30 - 11:45 AM.

This panel will discuss which theories of constitutional interpretation render the Constitution most effective and resilient in the face of change, technological and otherwise. The panel will explore whether the Constitution does in fact adapt to technological and industrial paradigm shifts as originally conceived, and to what extent competing methods of interpretation have enabled or stifled that adaptation.
