Big news from YSN!

We're proud to celebrate Yale School of Nursing Dean Azita Emami, who has been selected for the inaugural Academic Nursing Innovation Fellows (ANI Fellows) Program, a collaborative initiative of the Bedford Falls Foundation and the Elisabeth C. DeLuca Foundation. Designed to advance innovation and drive system-level change in nursing education, the pilot program brings together visionary nursing leaders from 10 institutions across the country to help shape the future of nursing education and strengthen the nursing workforce.

“At Yale School of Nursing, we believe innovation in education is essential to strengthening the nursing workforce, improving patient outcomes, and ensuring nurses are equipped to lead with confidence, compassion, and evidence-based expertise,” Dean Emami said.

📣 Priority applications are due soon for YSN's new Master of Nursing (MN) program!

Ready to make a difference in healthcare? The Yale MN offers a direct-entry, 16-month pathway to becoming a Registered Nurse, designed for individuals who already hold a bachelor's degree in a non-nursing field and are looking for a new professional chapter. The program combines graduate-level coursework, simulation, lab learning, and clinical experiences to prepare graduates for the NCLEX-RN and entry into nursing practice.

Unlike accelerated BSN programs, the MN allows you to earn a Yale master's degree, not a second bachelor's degree, while building a strong foundation for future opportunities in clinical practice, education, leadership, or doctoral study.

Don't miss the opportunity to join Yale's inaugural MN cohort and launch a successful nursing career in just 16 months.

We are thrilled to announce the remarkable success of the For Humanity Campaign for YSN. Together, we raised $73.1 million, more than doubling our original goal!

Three years ago, we challenged ourselves to reimagine what YSN could achieve, guided by a bold vision of advancing health and well-being for all. Together, we have reached important milestones by growing scholarship support, funding innovative research, and offering new programs.

For Humanity perfectly represents our purpose and impact: improving lives through education, discovery, innovation, and service.

None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of our donors, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends. We thank you for helping us create a healthier future for generations to come.

Why do ICU teams that know each other keep more patients alive?

For Deena Kelly Costa, Professor at Yale School of Nursing, it comes down to team continuity: the familiarity between nurses, and among interprofessional teams, that standard staffing quietly breaks apart.

In the Planetary Health Leadership Program (PHLP), an 8-week virtual certificate program from Yale School of Nursing and Yale Online launching this October, Dr. Costa brings this expertise to Arts, Space & Giving Grace, helping leaders build teams that survive crisis without losing the people in them.

Applications close August 15. Apply now. Link in the comments.

From accomplished musician to healthcare leader, Lars Gjerde’s journey is anything but traditional. After graduating from Yale School of Nursing’s graduate-entry program, he built a remarkable career at UC Davis Medical Center, where he now leads advanced practice providers across multiple specialties while continuing to care for patients at the bedside. He’s also helping shape the future of the profession as President-Elect of the California Association for Nurse Practitioners.

Driven by a passion for access, equity, and systems-level change, Lars exemplifies the impact Yale nurses can make far beyond the clinical setting. Read more about his inspiring path and advice for future nurse leaders.

Some of the world's best maternal outcomes come from some of its lowest-resourced health systems. What does the U.S. get wrong?

For Michelle Telfer, Associate Professor at Yale School of Nursing, the answer isn't more medicine. It's less of the wrong kind, and more of the model that already works: midwifery-led care.

In the Planetary Health Leadership Program (PHLP), an 8-week virtual certificate program from Yale School of Nursing and Yale Online launching this October, Dr. Telfer leads Global Partnerships & Collaboration, drawing on her work with a midwifery-led birth center in northern Uganda.

Info Session on July 21, 2026. 9:00 AM ET.
Applications close August 15.
