As our students arrived at school today, they saw flags lining the stretch of Santiago Boulevard along campus--one for every life lost in the September 11 attacks. As classes began, Taps sounded through our classrooms, helping a generation with no memories of that day understand what has to outlast ours: the worth of every life, the courage of those who rushed to help, the compassion that brought neighbors and strangers together, and our faith in the Lord, whose goodness no darkness can diminish. Twenty-five years later, remembrance is both our promise to those we lost and our responsibility to those who will only know that day through us.
