Today at Santiago, we had the privilege of doing a "Clap-Out"...an "Honor Walk"...a "Legacy Walk" for three of our finest teachers who are retiring today.

We honor Mike Ohta, who has been a mod/severe teacher in special education for over 30 years working with a very special population of students who he has taught, nurtured and loved with the the kind of care he would give his own children, each and every year. Mr. Ohta has a very special heart that is very rare...and he shares his heart with his students every single day.

We honor Mrs. Diane Hurdle, who started out as a Santiago parent and later became PE teacher. She is a mentor to many of our at-risk students...and to so many more. Mrs. Hurdle is a champion for the Underdog...she is always lifting kids up with her spirit, her kindness, her generosity, and her encouragement. She has made an enormous impact on our school and community and will leave an incredible legacy with many, many students.

We honor Mrs. Jenn Greene, who has taught AVID students and skills classes to raise the academic status of our students from all different levels and abilities. She is one of the most professional, kind, positive human beings you will ever meet. She is the type of person you wish everyone would model after...just a wonderful teacher, parent and person...always smiling, always positive, and always kind. She is the kind of person who builds a positive culture simply by being herself.

We will miss these great educators...or as I call them "farmers" because they have each planted seeds in the form of inspiration in all of our students and although we do not know when these "seeds" will blossom, we know they will at some point in the life of each and every student they have impacted.

Our school and our community owe each of you a debt of gratitude and wish you a wonderful retirement!

Hoy en Santiago, tuvimos el privilegio de hacer un "Aplaudo"... un "Caminata de Honor"... un "Paseo del Legado" para tres de nuestros mejores maestros que se jubilan hoy.

Honramos a Mike Ohta, que ha sido un maestro en educación especial (programa - moderado/severo) durante más de 30 años trabajando con una población muy especial de estudiantes a los que ha enseñado, nutrido y amado con el tipo de cuidado que daría a sus propios hijos, todos los años. El Sr. Ohta tiene un corazón muy especial que es muy raro... y comparte su corazón con sus estudiantes todos los días.

Honramos a la Sra. Diane Hurdle, quien comenzó como madre de Santiago y más tarde se convirtió en profesora de educación física. Ella es una mentora para muchos de nuestros estudiantes en riesgo... y para muchos más. La Sra. Hurdle es una defensora de los más necesitados... siempre está levantando a los niños con su espíritu, su amabilidad, su generosidad y su aliento. Ella ha tenido un enorme impacto en nuestra escuela y comunidad y dejará un legado increíble con muchos, muchos estudiantes.

Honramos a la Sra. Jenn Greene, que ha enseñado a estudiantes de AVID y clases de estudios/tutoría para aumentar el estatus académico de nuestros estudiantes de todos los niveles y habilidades diferentes. Ella es uno de los seres humanos más profesionales, amables y positivos que conocerás. Ella es el tipo de persona que desearías que todos modelaran... simplemente una maestra, madre y persona maravillosa... siempre sonriente, siempre positiva y siempre amable. Ella es el tipo de persona que construye una cultura positiva con solo siendo ella misma.

Estrañaremos a estos grandes educadores... o como yo los llamo "agriculeros" porque cada uno de ellos ha plantado semillas en forma de inspiración en todos nuestros estudiantes y, aunque no sabemos cuándo florecerán estas "semillas", sabemos que lo harán en algún momento de la vida de todos y cada uno de los estudiantes que han pasado por sus salones y nuestra escuela.

¡Nuestra escuela y nuestra comunidad deben a cada uno de ustedes una deuda de gratitud y les desean una maravillosa jubilación!

Santiago’s Marine Science elective took a trip to the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium to see all they have learned in person! Students touched Sea Stars, Sea Urchins and others, hatched Grunion eggs preparing for them the ocean life, and learned all about our local marine life. Thank you Mr. Klasky, Mrs. Yan and Mrs. walker for creating this opportunity 💙

We had our 33rd annual Santiago Decathlon yesterday and today we had our award assembly! A huge shout out to our PE Dept for continually showcasing our kids in their many talents! Congrats to all of our Decathletes!
