JUST A GENTLE REMINDER:
I belong to many organizations that I truly care about. Like many of us, I join professional and community groups for different reasons—to collaborate, support one another, share reminders, serve others, and grow together.
That is why it is saddening when someone receives an angry emoticon for simply posting a reminder, sharing information, or contributing to a collaborative effort. It may seem very easy to click an angry reaction, but we also need to consider the impact it may have on the person receiving it and on the group's overall atmosphere.
An angry face can easily be misunderstood. It may create tension, hurt feelings, discourage others from participating, or make the group feel less safe and less welcoming. In a professional group chat or meeting space, disagreement is normal—but how we express disagreement matters.
Before we click, let us pause and think.
Instead of reacting with anger, we can choose respectful words such as:
“I respectfully see it differently.”
“May I clarify something?”
“I have another suggestion.”
“Can we discuss this further?”
Professional communication should build trust, not tension. Let us choose respect over reaction, kindness over conflict, and understanding over judgment.
It is always better to be kind. A respectful chat today helps build a stronger team tomorrow.
