I'm saddened to hear that Lilly Ledbetter passed away this Saturday. She is known for her fight for fair pay and the landmark legislation: The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009.
It was President Barack Obama's first bill that he signed into law. I was so inspired by this that I made a painting back in 2009. Here it is again.

Artists and Art Students! What are you learning right now? I'm diving deeper into painting color & light with Danny Von Der Ahe in our class with . And I'm loving the process of making Color Scripts for my graphic novel that I'm learning from Caleb Cleveland's Visual Storytelling Class.

Our friends over at Cura Studios are sharing the work that they're learning, too.
If anything is certain as an artist, it's the idea that there will always be something that you don't know. My goal as an educator is to learn as much as possible so that I can be a better teacher AND so I can bring my skills to the next level, make art that I'm proud of, and communicate my ideas in a clear way.

When creating a cast of characters for a client based project, often the first part of the process is to draw concept sketches. The client gives the character designer a brief of what they're expecting and the character designer creates concepts based on those sketches. It's a good idea to draw explore a variety of options for the client and these are some drawings of that process. The designs were created for Lango Kids in Irvine.
