John and I know this artist Albert Lebourg from our many years in Normandy. Specifically we got to know him better while painting in the town of La Bouille, not far from Rouen. The town was covered by huge posters of his work as he lived there and painted that beautiful town from every point. In fact, you had to get there by a ferry, which we did. And then we overstayed and missed the one back, so had to drive half of Normandy to get back home in the dark.
So, I came across this auction today and saw his still life. Lebourg is more famous for his landscapes of Paris and Normandy.
But this is a great example of how to paint flowers and how not to treat the background as an afterthought, or blend everything or outline and fill it in and end up with hard edges. https://www.christies.com/lot/lot-6606536?cid=ms%3Asm_p%7Cpl%3Afacebook%7Clp%3Aldp%7Cmt%3Acon%7Cca%3A2021m%7Cla%3Aeng%7Cpt%3Aadd%7Caf%3Adynamic_carousel%7Cge%3Ausa%7Ccc%3A2021ldn1026&utm_medium=paid&utm_source=fb&utm_id=120248350139630618&utm_content=120248512077330618&utm_term=120248350139910618&utm_campaign=120248350139630618&media_type=image&fbclid=IwY2xjawU68yxleHRuA2FlbQIxMABwZG9mBWJyaWQRMUwybUJJMTZrTjFhelRGZXhzcnRjBmFwcF9pZBAyMjIwMzkxNzg4MjAwODkyAAEemEz37BU3cejrkfuHBnMp2staNObWCqzGrulXjdJMiwsPSFgsuhAyJ1WwjFM_aem_NhDTeUoz5jG6MBxiO3zwmw
