Want to build a writer? Sometimes you need to put the pencil DOWN! ✏️

Play-Doh, Legos, beads, tongs, painting, cutting, and other hands-on experiences strengthen the small muscles and coordination children eventually need for writing.

Worksheets aren't the only path to school readiness.

Sometimes preparing to write looks a whole lot like PLAYING.

A big thank-you to School Readiness Nurse Candace for visiting our preschoolers and teaching them all about germs and how to stay healthy! Our students loved learning about handwashing, healthy habits, and ways to help keep themselves and others safe. 🧼🫧💙

Sharing is more complicated than it looks!

When children take turns, they're practicing impulse control, patience, communication, perspective-taking, and problem-solving.

That's why Preschool and TK classrooms provide LOTS of opportunities to practice these skills through real interactions and play.

We aren't just telling children to "share." We're teaching them HOW. ❤️

Making friends is something we LEARN. ❤️

In Preschool and TK, children are practicing how to join play, share ideas, listen to others, compromise, communicate, and work through disagreements.

Our teachers intentionally support these interactions because social development is an essential part of early learning.

Today they're learning how to be classmates. They're also learning how to be friends. 👫

Messy play, big learning! Our preschool class had a blast with shaving cream today.

Beyond the fun, this sensory activity is a great way to:

* Strengthen fine motor skills for writing.
* Encourage creative expression.
* Provide a calming tactile experience.

We love watching them learn through play!

Yesterday was a special day at West Orange!

Our TK students did a fantastic job celebrating Constitution Day with a wonderful performance for their schoolmates and families.

It was a joy to see our youngest learners shine as they shared what they’ve been learning.
