Are you interested in a sewing class for your students this coming year? I am opening registration for my fall/spring semesters. I am registering for classes on Wednesdays beginning in September. Our schedule runs from September through December, and then we pick back up in January and run through April. My Wednesday schedule is as follows:
11:30AM-1:00PM Beginning Sewing Elementary (1-5)
1:30PM- 3:00PM Beginning Sewing Middle & High School (6-12)
3:30-5:00PM Intermediate Sewing (grades 6-12)
*If you have an advanced student, please reach out to me for more information on building an advanced class. We have one student and need two more to have a class. An advanced student must know how to read a pattern, sew a basic article of clothing, and make pattern adjustments if needed for fit.
Classes will be offered at my studio next to my home in Orange Park. The cost is $60 per student, which pays for 1.5 hours of instruction for 4 weeks a month. Ages 6 and up. Required tools: your own sewing machine and basic sewing kit, and project-based supplies. The main goal of the class is for the student to understand the sewing machine completely, and then to be confident in using a pattern and picking out supplies. I teach semesters, but my fall students usually choose to carry on into the spring semester.
Projects that we will complete in the beginning class include: 1)12” basic stuffed pillow, 2) drawstring backpack, 3) either a pencil wrap up case or zipper pouch, 4) drawstring pajama pants, 5) drawstring skirt, and 6) (time permitting) a Christmas Stocking at the end of the fall semester and an apron at the end of the spring semester. Projects included in the intermediate class include a study on knitwear and construction of several knit fabric garments, a textiles mini-swatch and sample kit, a zipper study, and an in-depth study of sewing patterns and how to use them. Projects begin to vary at the end of this course as students have the knowledge to choose their own projects.
I am familiar with the Family Empowerment Scholarship, formerly Gardiner, and as a certified instructor, the cost of my lessons can be submitted for reimbursement using this scholarship. I am in the process of becoming a “direct-pay” vendor.
