- Most recently certified by the State of Florida to evaluate and prescribe Medical Marijuana for approved conditions identified by the State of Florida (MS, Seizures, Parkinson's Disease, Chronic Pain and ALS).
- General Neurology Residency and subspecialty training in EEG, EMG, Sleep Disorders at the National Naval Medical Center "Bethesda" and Children's Hospital Washington DC.
- Undersea Medicine Training while on active duty in the US Navy. Special expertise in Hyperbaric, Diving and Submarines. Treated over 350 cases of Diving and Decompression Sickness. Was selected to teach Diving Medicine at the US Navy Dive School at Panama City, Florida, rewriting the entire curriculum for Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine.
- Served as the Medical Officer for the USS Alabama SSBN 731 (Gold) and USS Ohio SSBN 726(Blue) submarines, making 3 strategic deterrant patrols. While stationed in Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines, served as the Diving Medical Officer for Naval Special Warfare Unit ONE, Explosive Ordnance Detachment Mobile Unit FIVE, 3rd Marine Reconaissence Battalion, participating in various exercises throughout the Pacific and Indian Ocean from Korea to the Seychelles, Singapore and Guam. As the Medical Officer for Submarine Group SEVEN, participated in various exercises with most of the attack submarines assigned to SubGroup SEVEN. In Subic Bay served with the Ship's Repair Facility Dive Locker, treating over 350 cases of Diving and Decompression Sickness including several Treatment Table 7s. As the Diving Medical Officer for CTF 73 participated in various exercises including salvage of aircraft and ships with most of the Salvage ships and units assigned to the US Navy Seventh Fleet from Korea to Singapore and Guam.
- Received training as a Family Practice Resident at Resurrection Hospital, Chicago, Illinois.
- Attended Medical School at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara. Receiving the MD degree in 1982
- Received a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan, graduating at the age of 20. After leaving the US Navy in 1998, Dr. Maquera has been practicing neurology for over 20 years in Jacksonville and Orange Park, Florida. Most recently associating with Neurotek, since 2013. Dr. Maquera is passionate about the practice of Medicine and Neurology. This is reflected by many patients having followed Dr. Maquera to our current practice based on his willingness and devotion to each one of his patients. a JCAHO Accredited Clinic. opened their doors in 2013 to patients seeking neurological care. Our facility offers monitored and home sleep studies. Routine Electroencephalography (EEG) and prolonged EEGs with video monitoring. Nerve Conduction Velocity(NCV) and Electromyography(EMG) testing. Neurovascular Ultrasound testing, and many other services.
