Vitamin C is available in a number of forms. Among them, L-ascorbic acid is the most active and well studied.⠀

💛As one of the most powerful antioxidants, vitamin C has been shown to protect against photoaging and improve signs of aging. It also decreases melanin formation, thereby improving hyperpigmentation. ⠀

💛However, L-ascorbic acid has some weaknesses.⠀

1. Poor pe*******on: It is a hydrophilic and unstable molecule, hence the poor pe*******on into the skin. Reducing the acidity of the serum to a pH below 3.5 can improving its stability and permeability. ⠀

2. Not for Sensitive Skin: Since L-ascorbic requires an acidic environment to be stable, it has more side effects than other vitamin C derivatives. Common side effects include: itching, redness, irritation, rash.⠀

3. Unstable: To increase its stability, L-ascorbic acid is combined with other antioxidants (vitamin E, resveratrol, ferulic acid) in the protection against oxidative damage. ⠀
