This morning, our 5th-8th grade students hopped back on the buses and took a trip down the road to Hospers to see the grapevines on the Kreykes farm.

Why?

This year our theme is "Abide" based on the words of John 15. Mr. Alons spoke to the students about the importance of the branches (us) to stay connected to the vine (Christ). If we are not connected to the vine, we have no chance to produce grapes (fruit that will last).

We were also able to hear from Mr. Kreykes and the importance of taking care of the grapevines, especially pruning them. It didn't seem to make sense at first that you would cut off perfectly good branches (doesn't more branches mean more fruit?!?). We discovered that the stump of the grapevine is only able to feed a certain amount of nutrients up to the rest of the plant. If there are too many branches to feed, the nutrients cannot make it to the fruit to produce mature, healthy grapes.

It was a great morning of learning (and tasting!) for our students and we are excited to be able to use the examples from our time this morning throughout the year as we learn what it means to "abide" in Christ.

We were blessed with an amazing crew last night for our pile in Holstein, a well placed cloud by our Creator to relieve some of the heat, and a majestic sunset with prime views.

We're also blessed with amazing volunteers who filled up tonight's pile's needs in less than 30 minutes.

We're still looking for someone to bring supplies to the pile, so if you're available to be our transport vehicle, please sign up!

When: Thursday, September 3
Time: 6:00
Location: 4212 430th St. Alton

You may not know what the "Impossible Shot" is, but our PE students do! Miss Niemyer introduced this challenge for her students this year and we have our first winner...Mrs. Krommendyk!

She stepped in at the end of our 5th grade PE class today, lined up her shot, and sunk it!

Ask any K-8 student what this challenge is all about...they're pretty excited to take their shot!
