"If you are a person like me who has an intellectual disability, I say you should come here! NEXT is a Christian program, and everyone is so friendly. I love the monthly outings we do as a program. Last month, we went out for ice cream and bowling with our mentors.

I feel like I am more independent now, since my parents are eight hours away. I have grown in my confidence. In high school, I used to be really shy, but you probably can’t tell that now.

The NEXT staff holds me accountable. John also meets with me every week to work on goals and life skills."

We’ve officially had our first full week together, and it was a busy one! We spent the week getting acclimated to college life, settling into our academic courses, and finding our rhythm. We ended the week with some well-deserved fun spending time together and enjoying activities around campus.

There may be no better teacher evaluation than this: Sherry popped into John’s class today, and his students were quick to share, “John is a VERRRRRY good teacher!” 😊

And you know what? They’re right!👏👏👏

We are so grateful to have John Rundquist on our NEXT team. He has jumped into this new role with enthusiasm, patience, creativity, and a genuine heart for our students & he is already doing a phenomenal job!

What a FULL day with our NEXT crew! ❤️

We welcomed our last senior back to campus, gathered for our first full-group meeting and some getting-to-know-you time, shared lunch together, snuck away for a girls’ coffee run ☕, met with every single student individually, and finished the day with a pizza party with the Theatre Production Ensemble group! 🍕

We are officially ready for another great year! First day of classes tomorrow!👏
