History: Orange Beach Elementary School was opened on the present site in August 1997. During the years from 1910 to 1914, Orange Beach had a one-room schoolhouse. That building is now registered as a National Historic Site and presently serves as the Indian and Sea Museum of Orange Beach. Orange Beach Elementary School received its initial accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges a
nd Schools in 1998. Orange Beach Elementary completed construction of an environmental learning center called the Sea, Sand & Stars Learning Center in 2007. Sea, Sand & Stars features five teaching stations inside and five teaching stations outside along an elevated boardwalk. A planetarium, a climate-controlled weather station, a technology laboratory, a 5,000-gallon saltwater aquarium, and a ‘touch tank’ are all part of the facility. The facility was dedicated and renamed as Steven W. Baker Sea, Sand, & Stars, Science and Nature Center on September 29, 2010. On October 14, 2011 the Steven W. Baker Sea, Sand, & Stars, Science and Nature Center was dedicated as an Alabama Wildlife Federation Outdoor Classroom.
