Bergen Catholic is a private, four year (9-12) college- preparatory high school located in a small suburban community in Bergen County approximately 10 miles from New York City. It is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Its student body numbers 800 boys from 72 different towns in the surrounding area. Enrollment is selective and based on a High School Entrance Exam

ination, academic record, and grammar school principal's recommendation. Bergen Catholic High School opened on September 11, 1955 with an enrollment of 114 freshmen. Classes were held at Our Lady of Visitation School, Paramus, while construction was being completed on the new building which occupies twelve acres of land on the corner of Oradell and Forest Avenues in Oradell, New Jersey. An addition was built onto the school in the early 1960s and a new and larger library was added in 1984. In 1989 a special weight training facility was erected. The school building also houses a student chapel, science laboratories, cafeteria, computer science laboratory, and gymnasium. An athletic field and parking area are included on the property. Brother Eugene D. McKenna was appointed the first principal. The students selected Crusaders to be the school symbol and that scarlet and gold should be the school colors. With the symbol Crusaders it was thought that an appropriate school motto should be Deus Vult - God Wills It!

There’s a significant piece of Bergen Catholic history that many people may have seen over the years, but may have never realized its true significance. Located on an outside wall of the Bergen Catholic gym, nearest Oradell Avenue, is a historic statue that has watched over generations of Crusaders since 1962. The statue is entitled “Madonna of the Crusaders” and depicts the Virgin Mary in prayer, and can even be seen at night due to spotlights at its base.

This statue was dedicated in memory of Br. Eugene McKenna, Bergen Catholic’s first principal, and one of the school’s founding brothers. It was presented as a gift from some of the earliest BC students and parents and became a part of the school’s identity in 1962.

The Bergen Catholic Football team was working bright and early at Jack McGovern Field getting prepared for their season opener on Friday, August 28th when the Crusaders head out to PA to take on Pittsburgh Central Catholic. Best of luck to Head Coach Vito Campanile and the entire BC Football program as they begin their 2026 crusade. Deus Vult!

This summer, Bergen Catholic students traveled to Costa Rica to take part in the CIEE’s Good Neighbor Kitchen program which allows high school students the chance to learn the culinary arts and regional cooking traditions from local chefs while exploring how food can bring people and communities together.

The BC students worked alongside other American high school students from Iona Prep and St. Laurence to help prepare and serve meals to local families, all while getting the chance to explore the beautiful Costa Rican landscape, learn about local culture and customs, and enjoy activities alongside new friends.

Bergen Catholic expands horizons and encourages our students to learn to lead by helping to serve others and to make a difference, whether it be in New Jersey or around the world. Deus Vult!

Bergen Catholic is once again offering a HSPT Prep Course for those in 8th grade who are preparing to take the HSPT exam in the fall. Our comprehensive HSPT Prep Course is designed to help 8th graders strengthen their Math and English skills, become familiar with the structure and timing of the exam, and build confidence through guided practice and review.

We still have Tuesday and Thursday prep session evenings from 5-7pm available for interested families, as spots are going fast and we already have two sessions completely sold out.

The Bergen Catholic Football program was well represented at the 2026 Super Football Conference Media Day at MetLife Stadium. Crusader captains Austin Busso ‘27, Bryan Porter ‘27 and Nick Mauro ‘27 joined head coach Vito Campanile to discuss the upcoming season for the scarlet & gold. Deus Vult!

Bergen Catholic would like to thank the members of the Oradell Fire Department who participated in our BC Soccer Program’s car wash fundraiser over the weekend. We thank the Oradell Fire Department for keeping our community safe and for supporting our Crusaders!

The BC Soccer program will be hosting another car wash on Sunday, August 23rd from 8am-2:30pm in the school parking lot.

On a picture perfect Saturday, Bergen Catholic welcomed to Crusader Country members of the Class of 2030 who got to enjoy their first BC Football game day experience as Crusader students as the team hosted their annual intrasquad scrimmage for families and fans to enjoy. As they found out, there’s nothing like enjoying some BC Football on a sunny Saturday afternoon at The Jack!

The Bergen Catholic Soccer program will be hosting car washes on Sunday August 16th & August 23rd in the BC parking lot from 8 am-2:30 pm to help support their efforts for the upcoming 2026 season. So please bring your cars over to Crusader Country and help support BC Soccer!

The Bergen Catholic Football program was honored to have Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield and his teammates Tristan Wirfs and Cade Otton come and talk to the Crusaders as they were in the area to play a preseason game against the Jets.

It’s not everyday you get to hear from a Heisman Trophy winner and Coach Vito Campanile and his BC team were thankful to have members of the Buccaneers come talk about football leadership and what it takes to win. Best of luck to Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers this season!
