As we continue recognizing the wonderful retirees from this school year, we are honored to celebrate Mrs. Fran LaFleur. An Opelousas Catholic alumna, Mrs. Fran has spent the majority of her life as an OCS Viking, first as a student and then as an educator. She dedicated her entire 44-year teaching career to Opelousas Catholic, serving students in Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 3rdβ4th Grade and leaving a lasting impact on generations of Vikings.
Mrs. Franβs love for teaching began at a young age and was strengthened during a college internship at a nursery school, where she discovered just how much she enjoyed working with young children. Throughout her career, one of the most rewarding experiences for her was watching quiet or struggling students grow into confident, engaged learners. She has always encouraged her students to understand that mistakes are a natural part of learning and that challenges can be overcome with confidence and perseverance.
Being part of a Catholic school community for 44 years has shaped Mrs. Fran both spiritually and morally. She describes her coworkers as family and credits them with teaching her the importance of patience, teamwork, and compassion. She will greatly miss the relationships she built with her students, the joy of watching them grow throughout the year, and the special bond she shared with her βsecond familyβ at OC.
Mrs. Franβs connection to Opelousas Catholic extends beyond her own career. Her children, Mallie and Blaine, graduated from OCS in 2004, and Tyler graduated in 2005, making the Viking tradition a true family legacy.
As she begins retirement, Mrs. Fran looks forward to spending more time with her family and grandchildren, cheering them on at sporting events, relaxing, and canning plenty of produce from her husband Steveβs garden. She hopes to be remembered as someone who cared for others, created a positive environment, and encouraged those around her.
Thank you, Mrs. Fran, for 44 years of faith-filled service, dedication, and love for Opelousas Catholic. Your influence will be felt for years to come, and we wish you many blessings, happiness, and cherished family moments in retirement. ππβοΈπ
Congratulations, Mrs. Fran, and thank you for spending a lifetime as an OCS Viking! π

ππ Retirement Recognition: Mrs. Gina Labbe ππ
As we close another wonderful school year, we would like to recognize two very special members of our Opelousas Catholic family who have retired. Today, we are honored to celebrate Mrs. Gina Labbe and her years of dedicated service to our school community.
For the past 15 years, Mrs. Gina has faithfully served the students of OCS, teaching first grade Math, Science, and Social Studies, as well as second grade Language Arts and Math. Inspired by her own fourth-grade teacher, Mrs. Joubert, she chose a career in education and has spent years helping young learners grow academically and personally. One of the most rewarding parts of her teaching career has been witnessing those βAha!β moments when students gain confidence, independence, and a love for learning.
Mrs. Gina shared that one of the things she will miss most about OCS is attending school Masses and being surrounded by her OCS family, especially her longtime friend and sidekick of more than 30 years, Lisa Hargroder. Through her years at Opelousas Catholic, she has also experienced personal growth, sharing that being part of a Catholic environment helped strengthen and deepen her faith.
A proud OCS parent, Mrs. Gina watched all four of her children graduate from Opelousas Catholic: Emily (2010), Jacob (2012), David (2016), and Evan (2018). When asked what lesson she hopes her students never forget, her answer was simple but powerful: βBe kind and stay curious.β
As she begins retirement, Mrs. Gina is looking forward to spending more time with her grandchildren and family, as well as traveling and enjoying new adventures. We are incredibly grateful for the love, dedication, faith, and encouragement she has shared with generations of OCS students.
Mrs. Gina, thank you for your years of service and for the lasting impact you have made on our school community. We pray that God blesses you abundantly in this next chapter and that your retirement is filled with joy, good health, treasured memories, and many blessings. Congratulations on your retirementβyou will always be a cherished member of the OCS family! βοΈππ
Stay tuned as we honor our next retiree and celebrate another dedicated member of the OCS family!
