It's National Principal's Month, and we're beginning a Q&A series to highlight all of our amazing principals in Opelika City Schools!
First up, Mrs. Laura Sellers at Morris Avenue Intermediate!
Q: What inspired you to enter education, and how did you progress to your current role of principal?
A: "I would say what inspired me to enter education is the relationships that I had with my teachers when I was growing up. I was a struggling student and I had teachers that supported me and gave me what I needed to fill in my gaps. When I stepped out of the classroom, it was because I wanted to work with more students, and I wanted to impact children through the work of other teachers."
Q: What is something you're especially proud of at your school this year?
A: "Our teachers are here every single day working hard for our kids. They don’t just show up for kids in the classroom. They’re showing up for our children in their everyday lives. They see the whole child, they’re educating the whole child, and that’s what I’ve been really proud of this year."
Q: What is something you want the Opelika community to know about the work principals do every day?
A: "I think the Opelika community needs to know that every decision we make starts with the child first. We are student-centered and we truly want to educate and support every child, every day."
