some of you have mentioned the South Quad. Here are some photos taken today August 11... All taken from the steps of Tiger Hall( former Home Ec). Beautiful sunny day in Southern California Temp 75 degrees light breeze!
i know many of you will say too much concrete; or where is the grass? This offers students shade; a center to hold rallies and noon time activities and the flooding in the south end has been fixed. The landscape is beautifully done and it is taken care of and always looks clean!

Tonight was the Tribute evening for Jack Mercer, CHS Band Director and creator of the Ontario/Chaffey Show Band. Tom and I had the pleasure of setting up memorabilia; tables using Tigers centerpieces cut out by alumni George Cerisara; and coffee from Starbucks. Wonderful evening of celebrating Jack Mercer's 100th birthday with birthday cake for everyone and a musical evening to remember.

Class of 1959 Uses Zoom for Monthly Mini-Reunions
Sharon Chez Salcido â59 and James Kilgore â59 began exchanging e-mails regularly following the CHS â59 60-year reunion in 2019. When they realized they were both participating in a lot of Zoom meetings with various community organizations, friends and relatives, they wondered if they should try it with CHS classmates.
In fall 2020, Sharon sent an email to classmates proposing Zoom meetings. The response was positive, and the first meeting took place in October 2020. It was so successful, they scheduled monthly meetings on the first Monday of the month at 2 pm, beginning December 2020. Classmates are participating from Arizona, Oregon, Tennessee as well as California. CHS â59 plans to continue Zooming in 2021 and beyond.
Sharon invites other reunion committees to contact her if interested in learning more: [email protected]. She would also like to know if other classes are holding Zoom meetings

CHS Theatre Arts Youtube Links (see link below):
After more than forty years of teaching, educating, and mentoring, Dave Masterson, Chaffey High School Department Chair for the Visual and Performing Arts, retired on May 22, 2020. Over the course of 25 seasons, Masterson produced 45 theatrical shows and played to over 300,000 people â a milestone for any theatre and especially for a high school.
Niki Rapattoni â58 and 2020 Tiger of the Year, and donor since 2012 of the annual Rapattoni CHS Drama Scholarship has acted as liaison between CHSAA and Dave. Recently Dave provided Niki with links to the Youtube videos of his theatrical productions from 1998 to his retirement in 2019.
Using funds donated to the Gardiner W. Spring Auditorium fund, CHSAA has been assisting the theatre arts department with capital equipment upgrades for decades. CHSAA intends to continue supporting CHS Theatre Arts in the future.
If you are not already a member of the CHS Alumni Association, you should join! Information on the website.
NOTE - to protect from hackers, access to the CHSAA website is blocked from many countries. If you are a Chaffey Alumni from a blocked country, please let us know in comments and we'll look into opening up access from your country (but not China, Russia, and a few others). Be sure to let us know what country you're in and your name while attending Chaffey (if different than your FB identity).

Congratulations to NIKI BROWN RAPATTONI '58 for being named the 2020 TIGER OF THE YEAR. Sadly this year, due to the Covid-19 causing the school closure, she was not able to give her speech to the Senior Class at Baccalaureate. She is a strong supporter of Chaffey High School and gives an annual scholarship to a graduating Drama senior.
Thank you Niki for all you do for Chaffey High School.

Zohary Gonzalez, Chaffey Senior, Wins Rapattoni Drama Scholarship
Chaffey High School 2020 graduating senior, Zohary Gonzalez, has won the Rapattoni Drama Scholarship; the awardee will receive a $1,500-dollar scholarship for Outstanding Performance and Dedication in Chaffey High School Theatre. Due to the suspension of school for Covid-19 concerns, the award was presented online by the Principal of Chaffey High School, Christina Martinez, via a Power Point presentation.
According to Dave Masterson, Chair of the Visual and Performing Arts Department and recently retired, longtime Director of CHS Drama, âZohary was selected for this recognition due to her scholarship, theatrical talent, commitment and dedication to the productions at Chaffey High School.â Zohary ranks in the top 25% of her senior class at Chaffey High School and has a 3.17 grade point average.
Dave continued by recalling, âZoharyâs first role for us at Chaffey Theatre Company was in the Fall of 2016, in the ensemble, as a townsperson in Rodgers and Hammersteinâs Cinderella. (12,200 patrons) She followed that show as an enchanted object and townsperson in the Spring of 2017 in Disneyâs Beauty and the Beast, (14,400 patrons); as a junior in 2018, Zohary portrayed Emily Hobbs, a lead in the Christmas retelling of the film classic Elf Jr. The Musical (5021 patrons) staged in smaller Merton E. Hill Auditorium, while Gardiner W. Spring Auditorium was being renovated. Miss Gonzalezâ 2019 Spring role included a star turn as Marcy Park in the hilarious The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. (4802 patrons). Lastly, in a shortened school year, in the Fall of 2019, but in a fabulously restored newly opened Gardiner W Spring Auditorium, she portrayed Mertina, a Mersister in Disneyâs The Little Mermaid (15,035 patrons).â
Obtaining the rank of Thespian in Chaffeyâs International Thespian Society Troupe 5535, Miss Gonzalez is a well-seasoned performer, having entertained over 51,000 patrons of Chaffey Theatre since first stepping onto her alma materâs stage.
This is the 9th annual scholarship provided by Niki Brown Rapattoni, CHS class of 1958 and her husband, the late Andy Rapattoni, CHS class of 1957.
The two of them met in the Gardiner W Spring Auditorium in 1956 while attending their senior play. The high school sweethearts were married 57 years and are avid supporters of the CHS Alumni Association and Chaffey Theatre. (Andy was the 2010 CHS Alumni Tiger of the Year and spoke at that yearsâ Baccalaureate ceremony and Niki was slated to be this yearsâ 2020 Tiger.) When asked about the scholarship, co-benefactor Niki replied, âWe are thrilled to once again provide this scholarship to Zohary Gonzalez, a deserving CHS graduating student who has excelled in Drama and plans to continue her pursuit in the Performing Arts with a vocal emphasis at The Young Americans College of Performing Arts.
Masterson declared, âThe Rapattonis walked these grounds in the â50s, and began a lifetime of dedication and determination to support great causes and have continued âpaying it forward.â Zohary is a most deserving recipient of this annual scholarship and I know she will repay it forward just as her benefactors have.â
Zohary is the daughter of proud mother Pilar Gonzalez of Ontario.
Previous winners were: 2012-Gabriel Navarro; 2013-Vincent LaVigna; 2014-Jade Winter White; 2015-Jonathan Guevara; 2016-Adam Granados; 2017-Anthony Nelson; 2018-Ashley Flores; 2019-Jasmine Padilla; 2020-Zohary Gonzalez

Chaffey Alumni-from Vickee and Tom Duncan, CHSAA History Project Chairmen.
In the 1919 Chaffey Fast-yearbook- they closed school on September 18, 1918 and did not return to school until January 1919. They only went to school one day a week that month and started back full time in February 1919. It was due to the Spanish flu epidemic. Now a little more than 100 years later another epidemic and schools are closed.
