Navigating the California CCW application process can feel overwhelming, but you do not have to figure it out alone. If you are considering applying for your permit and aren't sure where to begin, here is a breakdown of the current state qualifications.

To be eligible for a CA CCW permit, applicants must meet the following baseline criteria:

➡Age & Jurisdiction: You must be at least 21 years of age and apply through the primary law enforcement agency (Sheriff or local Police Department) of your county of residence.

➡Legal Eligibility: You must pass a comprehensive DOJ/FBI Live Scan background check and be legally eligible to own, possess, and purchase a firearm in the state of California.

➡Firearm Registration: Any handgun you intend to list on your permit must be legally registered in your name with the California Department of Justice.

Once your initial application is submitted and conditionally approved by your issuing agency, the state requires mandatory standardized training. This is where our team steps in to ensure you are fully prepared:

➡Required Education: California law mandates a 16-hour comprehensive training course for initial applicants, and an 8-hour course for renewals.

➡Live-Fire Qualification: You must demonstrate strict safe-handling proficiency and pass a live-fire range qualification for each specific firearm you wish to carry.
