Some fun discoveries in this 1969 French Bible that tell a story. It's unclear the connection, but the owner was actually Dutch, one Lucie Verplancke, and it seems she was in her first year of secondary school at the time ("1.e.M"). The Bible also contains pamphlets of Dutch Roman Catholic devotional questions and a liturgical calendar, and two handwritten notes in Dutch to Lucie from one "Lieve":

Dear Lucie,

article. I think it’s
really good and I
hope that many more
people will enjoy it.

I wish you a
pleasant way to pass the time
choosing a “name”.

A lovely 1902 edition of Thomas a Kempis's The Imitation of Christ, a classic in Christian mysticism. Oxford, leather-bound, with gold foiling underlaid with red.

The Kuykendall Bible Collection has many idiosynchrasies, including this Bible that changes all the plural pronouns from "you" to "y'all." Wishing all our students a blessed summer break: y'all come back now, ya hear!

Congratulations to all our 2026 graduates! The library staff was priveleged to walk with faculty in commencement and see off the many students whom we helped along the way.

A particularly famous (or INfamous) Bible in the Kuykendall Collection is this facsimile of the Jefferson Bible. A deist, Thomas Jefferson is well known for his liberal excision of various passages of Scripture he found anti-rational, actually physically cutting them from the tome and standing in a redacted, piecemeal form. It stands as a testimony to Francis Turretin's earlier, near-prophetic query, "What will become of this sacred book, if everyone is allowed to wield a consorious pen and play the critic over it?"
