Christopher Donovan Day School and Donovan Center for Child Development

Christopher Donovan Day School and Donovan Center for Child Development Go light the world with the skills you have learned. The Christopher Donovan Center was created and first opened its doors in April 2007.

Its original mission was to provide a setting to help students with difficulties succeeding in a traditional school setting achieve their true learning potential. However, more recently, those primary responsibilities have been transferred to the separate, non-profit Christopher Donovan Day School, which offers an expanded range of services. Today, we have updated our name to fully mirror our miss

ion, as the Donovan Center for Child Development. The Center works on a contract basis with the Christopher Donovan Day School and other interested parties to provide an all-encompassing approach to teaching, including home programs identified and specified in each individualized program as needed. We believe that not all children with special needs fit any preconceived mold. While every child faces unique challenges, each also demonstrates his or her own fascinating skills. The Donovan Center for Child Development is the place for parents who prefer the most ideal setting for their children. The Christopher Donovan Center strives to work collaboratively with families, schools and communities to ensure that clients learn the skills required to succeed in the world. We believe that each client needs his or her own plan for success that addresses their specific diagnosis, whether it is autism spectrum disorder, a language-based disability or an intellectual or social/emotional learning disability. Our motto is, “Go light your world with the skills you’ve learned.” It’s something we have helped our clients accomplish for two years now, and we are proud of their achievements.

Even as we closed our doors we continued our mission and speaking Chris’ name while helping others. Donated to 5 different school, Halifax Elementary, Silver Lake Integrated Preschool, Silver Lake High Schoool, Wareham High School and Plymouth School district. Not only that but also almost 20 other teachers and countless families. Makes my heart happy 💙

And that’s a wrap after 20 years. Wasnt always easy, but was always worth it. Thank you to the families that entrusted us with their kids, and allowed us to carry on Chris’ story, we will forever be grateful. A message we keep hearing over these last several weeks is the center/day school changed their child’s’ life, but I know I speak for both Helen and myself when I say it changed our lives too. It gave a reason to keep going after loosing Chris, and throughout the last 20 yrs it gave us purpose. So thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has been involved in this journey.

It is with mixed emotion that we announce after almost 19 years the Christopher Donovan Day School and Donovan Center for Child Development will both be closing their doors this month. Something that began as a tribute to Chris, turned into so much more. It developed so many relationships, was a safe place for many kids, and provided a light to so many during these last 19 years. Chris’ memory will continue to shine through all the lives we have touched. Thank you for the last 19 years 💕

That being said, we have 20 yrs worth of school supplies, furniture (desks, chairs and tables galore), games, crafts, sensory items and more that we are looking to sell. Please reach out if there is anything you are interested in purchasing.

After his autistic son was bullied online while playing Minecraft, a devoted father refused to let the story end in hurt. Instead, he built a brand-new server from scratch, designed to be a safe, gentle, and welcoming space for autistic kids who just wanted to play without fear.
What started as a small project for his son quickly exploded. Word spread among parents who had experienced the same heartbreak, and soon seventeen thousand autistic children from around the world joined the server. The father set clear rules, added friendly moderators, and created quiet zones and sensory-friendly areas so kids could enjoy the game at their own pace.
The server became more than a place to play. It turned into a community where kids made friends, expressed themselves freely, and finally felt understood. Parents say it gave their children confidence they had never seen before.
All because one dad decided bullying would not have the last word.
