Classes paused. Learning didn’t. 🐉❤️⬇️

Our first-ever Grow, Thrive, Live Day gave Red Dragons a chance to step outside the classroom and:

📚 Grow academically during the Academic Expo
🎉 Thrive socially at the Red Dragon Games
🤝 Live purposefully through the 9/11 Day of Service.

From exploring new opportunities to friendly competition to giving back across our community, Red Dragons made the most of a day designed to connect, recharge and experience learning in a different way.

Did you see these odd clouds Tuesday? 👀☁️

Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Lecturer Allison Hannigan says these are altocumulus clouds that “are basically running into really dry air (sharp moisture gradient along this boundary), which causes this well-defined edge and abrupt contrast in the sky!”

Meteorology is so cool 🤓⚡️⛈️ Did you know we have a Meteorology program? Many successful alumni are doing amazing things in the weather/climatology world!

✨ Niche has named us No. 9 on its 2027 list of “Best College Campuses in New York”! We are the only SUNY school that made the ranking.

According to Niche, the 2027 Best College Campuses ranking "is based on key statistics and student reviews using data from the U.S. Department of Education. Top-ranked colleges offer outstanding campus resources across classrooms, labs, performance venues, housing, food, and recreational facilities."

We also were ranked:
•No. 3 in “Best Colleges for Education in NY”
•No. 11 in “Colleges with the Best Student Life in NY”; and
•No. 23 in “Best Colleges for Communications in NY”

$10,000 to help feed Red Dragons. ❤️🐉⤵

Sidney Federal Credit Union has generously donated $10,000 to SUNY Oneonta’s Red Dragon Food Pantry, helping ensure students have access to the food and essentials they need.

Since opening three years ago, the pantry has seen more than 5,000 visits and distributed more than 29,000 pounds of food. Last year alone, 848 students visited the pantry for everything from a quick snack to a week’s worth of groceries.

Open seven days a week, 365 days a year, the pantry is one of the ways our campus community helps make Oneonta feel like home.

Thank you, SFCU, for helping us continue that work during National Hunger Action Month and beyond. 🍎

You are not alone ❤️🦋💜 Two new campus projects are creating visible reminders that connection matters—and help is always within reach.

Our new 988 mural on the wall outside of Ford Hall is turning an important mental health resource into something big, bright and impossible to miss. Spearheaded by our Counseling Center and designed by students Alex Garcia, Abby Fish and Jack Brady, the mural serves as a reminder of the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline while helping normalize conversations about mental health and asking for help.

Nearby, bright yellow Buddy Benches at Hunt Union will offer spaces to sit, connect and start a conversation, whether with someone new or someone you already know. One will be located inside the lower level of Hunt Union, with another outside the new upper entrance.

Sometimes, connection starts with something as simple as saying hello. 💛

Two years after launching, SUNY's Empire State Service Corps has more than doubled in size at SUNY Oneonta and expanded its reach throughout the greater Oneonta community.

SUNY Oneonta played a leading role in the program's launch in 2024, with 48 students in its inaugural cohort—the most of any participating SUNY campus. This year, 100 students are participating, making Oneonta’s 2026-27 cohort one of the largest in the SUNY system, alongside Binghamton University and the University at Buffalo.
