Meet Sally Hood Quist, Oneida CSD alumna, Class of 1984!

Some of Sally’s favorite memories from her time at Oneida CSD center around friendships, cheerleading, and her senior year—memories that have stayed with her throughout the years.

Following graduation, Sally attended Ithaca College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in 1988.

Throughout her career, Sally has primarily worked in the telecommunications industry.

To future graduates, Sally offers this advice: "Remember where you came from!"

We’re proud to celebrate Sally and the many Oneida CSD alumni who continue to make their mark in our community and beyond!

Oneida Represented at Highmark Stadium!

This past Saturday was a special day for Oneida football as the Buffalo Bills hosted their Coach of the Week ceremony ahead of the first-ever game at the new Highmark Stadium!

We’re proud to share that our very own Tom Rose was selected as the Syracuse Region Week 3 Coach of the Week!

The Bills also welcomed back the Section 3, 5, and 6 All-Stars for a special halftime scrimmage. Three of Oneida’s returning All Stars — Taydem Marsh, Emmalynne Peebles, and Kendayl Gallagher (Kaylee French was unable to attend) — took the field alongside athletes from Fayetteville-Manlius, Syracuse East, Penfield, and Webster Schroeder to compete against All Stars from Sections 5 and 6.

What an incredible experience for our athletes — getting to take the field at the brand-new Highmark Stadium, represent Oneida, and celebrate some of the best talent from across our region!

Congratulations to Coach Rose and our Oneida All Stars! We’re so proud of you!

Meet Kara Kiehn (Didio), an Oneida CSD alumna from the Class of 2007!

Some of Kara’s favorite memories from her time at Oneida CSD center around art class, which was always one of her favorite places to be. The art room was a space where she could be herself and spend time with her friends. More than 20 years later, Kara and her longtime friends still reminisce about their days in the art room. She credits Pam Lynch for always being one of their biggest cheerleaders.

When Kara wasn’t in the art room, she could often be found in the Fariel, cheering on her siblings during basketball season. She loved watching all four of her siblings take to the court each winter. It was not uncommon to find her in the upper bleachers with a video camera, recording varsity basketball games for the team. With her dad coaching, her siblings playing, and her mom and grandfather keeping the book, the basketball court truly became a second home for the entire Kiehn family.

Following graduation, Kara attended SUNY Potsdam, following in the footsteps of her elementary art teacher and former Oneida teacher, Karen Backus. She graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education. Her undergraduate program was unique, with most of her classes and art studios completed through SUNY Potsdam, while her education courses were completed through St. Lawrence University.

Kara remained at SUNY Potsdam to earn her MSED in Literacy Education. Following the completion of her master’s degree, she earned her professional teaching certification in Visual Arts K–12.
This fall, Kara will begin her 16th year as an art educator. She currently teaches students in grades 6–8 at Holland Patent Middle School. Throughout her career, she has taught art at all levels, but middle school remains her favorite.

"Middle schoolers are just at the beginning of figuring out who they want to be and I enjoy helping them navigate their possibilities."

To future graduates, she offers this advice: "Build strong friendships. The people who stick by you are the ones worth surrounding yourself with. Find something you enjoy that gives you purpose. Be brave, choose yourself, be resilient, and build something you’re proud of. Be undeniably yourself, and don’t apologize for taking up space."

Slow Down. School’s Around.

Summer is winding down, which means school buses will soon be back on the roads and students will once again be traveling to and from school each day.

As we get ready to head into a new school year, we’re asking everyone in our community to help keep our students safe:

🚍 Watch for school buses and children at bus stops.
🛑 Stop when required for a stopped school bus.
👀 Stay alert for students getting on and off the bus.
🚗 Slow down and give buses plenty of space.

A few extra seconds behind the wheel can make a big difference.
School’s back. Let’s make sure every student gets there—and gets home—safely.

Section 3 All-Stars!

We’re proud to celebrate our Flag Football athletes who earned Section 3 All-Star honors for their outstanding performances on the field.

And the honors don’t stop there!

Kaylee French was named 1st Team All-State, and Alexis DeGroat was named 2nd Team All-State!

Both All-State selections were recognized by the New York State Sportswriters Association.

Congratulations to Kaylee, Alexis, and all of our Section 3 All-Stars on this well-deserved recognition! We are so proud of the talent, dedication, and hard work you brought to the field.

Meet Hope Johnson (McCray), an Oneida CSD alumna from the Class of 2007!

One of Hope’s favorite memories from her time at Oneida was a particularly meaningful moment at graduation. After spending many years in a wheelchair, Hope was able to walk across the stage alongside Mr. Fiacco, one of her biggest supporters throughout her journey to graduation. For Hope, that moment was a powerful and unforgettable milestone.

Following high school graduation, Hope went on to earn an associate degree in Science. Today, Hope handles the full revenue cycle for multiple providers and offices, putting her skills and education to work in her career.

To future graduates, Hope offers this advice: "There is a big world out there don't; be afraid to adventure."
