At Onamia Public Schools, your child’s education, focus, and overall well-being are at the heart of everything we do. To help our students stay fully present, engaged in their learning, and connected with peers, we maintain a thoughtful, age-appropriate cell phone policy across our school:

📱Grades K–8: Students will not have access to their cell phones at any point during the school day. This helps foster an environment free from digital distractions where young learners can build strong foundational skills, focus on teamwork, and enjoy meaningful face-to-face social interactions. If your child does bring a phone to school, it must be turned off and in the student’s locker or other designated area.

📱Grades 9–12: High school students may access their cell phones outside of scheduled class periods (such as during passing time and lunch), but phones must remain put away during instruction to support maximum academic engagement. If your child does bring a phone to school, it must be turned off and in the student’s locker or other designated area during prohibited times.

Partnering with Families 🏠
We encourage families to take a few minutes before the school year begins to talk through these guidelines with their children. Framing this as a shared effort to build healthy digital habits, boost focus, and strengthen friendships goes a long way in setting our students up for a smooth and successful start.

📚By toggling off screens, we flip the switch on active learning, creative thinking, and genuine connections. Thank you for partnering with us to keep the focus where it belongs—on your student’s success!

🎒 Back-to-School Season is Here!
The transition back to school often brings a mix of excitement and nervousness for children and families. Worries about new routines, teachers, classmates, or academic expectations are completely normal.
Families can help ease these concerns by providing reassurance, structure, and opportunities for open communication. Whether your child is entering Pre-K, upper elementary, or middle school, building confidence starts with simple steps like:
* Preparing school supplies and clothing in advance.
* Maintaining consistent bedtimes and morning routines.
* Praising effort and progress rather than focusing only on grades.
* Asking daily check-in questions like "What was the best part of your day?" to reveal concerns early.
Let’s build resilience and set our kids up for a confident, successful school year! 📚✨
