A Robocall went out this morning incorrectly noting our start time for the coming school year as 8:15. All Onalaska schools will start at 8:00 am and end at 3:15 pm. We apologize for the confusion and look forward to seeing you all next week.

The Fall Sports Parent Meeting is coming up, and all OSD student-athletes and their families participating in Fall 2026 sports are encouraged to attend!

Join AD Saade, coaches, and staff as they share important updates on sports guidelines, expectations, and participation information for the upcoming fall season.

Immediately following the general meeting, players and parents will meet with their sport-specific head coaches to receive information specific to their team and season.

This is an important opportunity to get your questions answered, meet your coaches, and make sure everyone is ready for a successful Fall 2026 sports season. We hope to see you there!

📚 Back-to-School Daily Schedule Reminder 🍎

As we get ready for a great school year, please review these important times for our Elementary students:

🚗 Student Drop-Off: 7:40–7:55 AM

🥣 Breakfast: Begins at 7:45 AM

🔔 School Starts: 8:00 AM (Elementary, Middle, and High School)

⏰ If your child arrives after 8:00 AM, they must check in at the Elementary/Middle School Office before going to class.

🚗 Student Pick-Up: 3:15 PM (Elementary, Middle, and High School)

📞 After-School Plans: Any changes to your child's after-school plans must be called into the school office no later than 2:00 PM.

Thank you for helping us keep arrival and dismissal safe and efficient. We can't wait to welcome everyone back for an amazing school year!

🌌✨ Harold Observatory Open Viewing – Tonight! ✨🌌

Clear skies are in the forecast, and we're excited to announce that Harold Observatory in Onalaska will be open this Saturday night, July 18, from 11:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

Join us for an unforgettable journey beyond our solar system as we explore some of the universe's most spectacular deep-sky objects including:

🔭 Globular Clusters – Ancient, densely packed collections of hundreds of thousands of stars held together by gravity.

🪐 Planetary Nebulae – Beautiful glowing shells of gas created when dying Sun-like stars shed their outer layers.

☁️ Interstellar Nebulae – Vast clouds of gas and dust where new stars are born and stellar evolution continues.

🌌 Galaxies – Immense islands of billions of stars, gas, dust, and dark matter, each with its own incredible story.

Whether you're an experienced stargazer or looking through a telescope for the very first time, this is a wonderful opportunity to experience the wonders of the night sky with fellow astronomy enthusiasts.

If attendance is high and the skies cooperate, we may keep the observatory open a little later so everyone has a chance to enjoy the views.

More Week 4 highlights! 🌲🐟

Students hand-graded 38,000 steelhead fry, prepared the largest 20,000 for a future release into Gheer Creek, and welcomed Washington State Representative Ed Orcutt to the hatchery. They also tackled hatchery maintenance, picked up feed, visited the Skookumchuck Hatchery, learned to hook up a trailer, and gained even more real-world skills that are preparing them for future careers in fisheries and aquaculture! 💪🌊

🐟 Summer Aquaculture & Fisheries – Week 4 in Review! 🌲

Another incredible week of hands-on learning kept our students busy as they continued building the skills needed for careers in fisheries and natural resources!

🔹 Monday & Tuesday: Students graded 38,000 steelhead fry by hand at the OHS Steelhead Hatchery, using seines, nets, and a box grader to separate the largest 20,000 fish for their future release into Gheer Creek. They also recorded fish weights for inventory, cleaned and maintained the hatchery tanks, refilled oxygen bottles, picked up fish feed, visited the Skookumchuck Hatchery, and even learned how to safely hook up a trailer!

🔹 Wednesday: At Tacoma Power Fisheries, students assisted biologists as they sorted Chinook salmon and steelhead, learned about careers in fisheries management, toured the Mayfield Dam fish collection system, and explored potential snorkeling locations at Riffe Lake.

🔹 Thursday: Back at OHS, students sharpened their fish and wildlife identification skills while surveying Carlisle Lake. They identified several native and non-native species and practiced working together with seine and dip nets—valuable experience as they prepare for upcoming fieldwork with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Every day brings new challenges, new skills, and new opportunities. From hatchery operations and equipment maintenance to fisheries science and teamwork in the field, these students continue to gain experiences that simply can't be replicated in a traditional classroom. We can't wait to see what next week brings! 🌊👏
