The JROTC Wildcat Battalion participated in a rigorous confidence course at Texas TreeVentures, successfully facing their fears of heights and pushing their communication skills to the limit. As young leaders, they encouraged one another to excel, demonstrating remarkable resilience and teamwork. The course proved to be an outstanding experience, culminating in a significant sense of accomplishment and personal growth. Congratulations to the cadets on their outstanding courage and perseverance.

In 1948 President Harry S. Truman signed the Woman’s Armed Service Integration Act. This law allowed women to serve as regular permanent service members in the Armed Forces. Before the Act, woman were only allowed to serve during times of war. Texas officially recognized June 12th as Woman Veterans Day in 2017 since Texas is home to the highest number of woman veterans across our country.

It is with great pleasure that I announce the formal acceptance of our esteemed alumnus, PFC Aileen Nguyen, to the United States Military Academy at West Point's Class of 2030. As a former Cadet Battalion Commander and 2025 Valedictorian, she has exemplified exceptional dedication and perseverance, earning her this esteemed opportunity. Her outstanding academic record and leadership acumen make her an exemplary representative of our institution. I am confident that she will excel in her future endeavors and make significant contributions to the United States Army. Aileen's achievement marks a notable milestone, potentially as the first graduate from Onalaska Jr Senior High School to be appointed to West Point. I extend my sincerest congratulations to her and commend her recruiter, Shoshana Holliday, for her tireless efforts in facilitating the application process.

The Wildcat Battalion organized a competitive event allowing cadets to engage in friendly rivalry across multiple disciplines, including obstacle courses, relay races, tug-of-war, archery, armed drills, color guard drills, academic tests, pugil stick battles and ultimate football matches. This event marked the conclusion of the school term, celebrated with a bash that included a scavenger hunt for guideons, a slip-and-slide, and pizza, all while emphasizing the development of leadership and teamwork abilities.

This morning, six cadets took part in our annual ruck march. Unfortunately, the number of participants fell short of expectations, leading to disappointment regarding cadet engagement. Nevertheless, the cadets displayed resilience, choosing to hike in the woods and culminating in a ruck back home, which they aptly named the 'Trudge Through the Grudge'. The group faced obstacles during the woodland portion but demonstrated determination. Upon reaching Garland Park, 22 pushups were performed in tribute to veterans who have lost their lives to su***de. The event fostered camaraderie, and anticipation builds for next year's march. Well done, JROTC Wildcats.
