Tonight will be your first chance to see the 2026 Onaga High School fall sports teams, with the annual Buff Bash kicking the sports season off. Things get rolling at 5:00pm with the volleyball team taking on alumni in the north gym, then at 6:30pm you can head down to the Rosenfield Sports Complex to watch the cross country team run and the football team compete in a scrimmage. Stick around afterwards and the Spirit Squad will have post-game activities at the football field to introduce you to this year's teams.

To check out the rosters for this year's teams, get a sneak-peak of the schedules for this season, look through the history of each program, and much more, head over to each team's page on the district website. Links for each can be found below.

Good luck tonight to our student-athletes in their first time hitting the court and fields! GO BUFFALOES!!!

Onaga Elementary students enjoyed a great first day of school, thanks in part to the generosity and hard work of one of their peers.

At just seven years old, Stella, daughter of Dr. Marcus and Meghan Weiser, proved that kindness has no age limit. Over the summer, Stella set out to raise money by selling cookies and lemonade so she could purchase new sports balls for the students at Onaga Grade School to use during recess. Her goal was simple but heartfelt: make sure every class had something new and fun to enjoy on the playground.

In May, Stella approached Dr. Cathi Wilson, USD 322 Superintendent and proposed her plan. She wanted to use money raised from a lemonade stand and summer cookie sales to purchase new playground equipment. The existing playground balls were worn, faded and, in some cases, flat. Stella wanted to make sure students returned to school with new balls to enjoy.

By August, Stella and her siblings had raised enough money to purchase an assortment of kickballs, basketballs, volleyballs and soccer balls. Stella had the opportunity to deliver the new balls to each classroom on the first day of school, ensuring students could enjoy them at recess that very day—and for years to come.

She successfully reached her goal and was able to see the smiles on students’ faces as they played with their new equipment. Stella would like to thank all of the community members who supported her mission by purchasing her famous chocolate chip and peanut butter blossom cookies and lemonade.

Civic engagement is not new to the Weiser family. Both of Stella’s parents serve on committees and generously donate their time and talents to help others in the community. Stella’s mother, Meghan, for example, saw a need before the Alumni Banquet last spring to spruce up the front of the high school commons. She repainted the area around the front doors and organized students to help clean up the landscaping.

These may seem like small acts of kindness, but they demonstrate how much of a difference can be made when someone takes the time to recognize a need and do something about it.

Thank you, Stella and the Weiser family, for reminding our community that making a difference can start at any age.
