We're so excited!!! Found these two Friday, chomping on one of the swamp milkw**ds planted this summer in our greenhouse courtyard. Checked on the 6 little butterfly w**d plants across the sidewalk and found.....nothing but leafless little spikes....and another chomper!!! Can't wait to check this out on Monday!!

Our Summer 2026 Urban Roots newsletter is out!

It’s been a busy summer for Omaha Bryan Urban Agriculture. Our students have been working, learning, and getting real-world experience through internships, FFA activities, leadership training, and hands-on projects.

This newsletter highlights some of what our students have been doing over the summer, along with a look at what we have coming up this school year.

We’re proud of the work our students are putting in and excited to see what this next year brings.

Congratulations to Bryan Alumni (2024) Charles Herron on receiving the highest honor that the National FFA Organization can provide to a student - the FFA American Degree. Students must show dedication to FFA by being active members, complete their full recordbooks showing 3 years of records in a Supervised Agricultural Experience/SAE, and finally demonstrate academic achievement and knowledge acquisition within the Agriculture classroom.

During his time in the program and into college, Charles has done the following:
Charles was a member for 3 years in our chapter and served as one of our Vice Presidents and Greenhouse Managers, as well as competed on multiple district-winning CDE teams that went on to State FFA
Charles' SAE was working in the greenhouse in high school, completing a few agriscience fair projects and experiments, working at Fontenelle Forest over one summer, and working in the Plant Pathology and Entomology Labs at UNL assisting with research - earning over $10,000 over those 5 years of records
Charles took 4 classes within the Ag Academy at Bryan while maintaining a 4.0+ in his academics, participating in various other activities within the school, and serving as the Valedictorian of his graduating class. Currently, Charles is a Junior studying Plant and Landscaping Systems with a Horticulture option at UNL.

Only a small percentage of students ever receive this award. Charles is, in fact, only the 6th student from the Omaha Bryan FFA Chapter to ever receive the award! We are so incredibly proud of him and can't wait to see him walk across that stage in October!

✨ Our FFA Officers were officially in their training era. 💙🌽

On August 3rd & 4th, our 2026–2027 Bryan FFA Officer Team spent two days preparing for the year ahead, and we couldn't be more excited for what's to come!

Day 1 was spent at Gifford Farms, where officers had the opportunity to grow as a team through leadership activities, planning sessions, and getting to know one another. They explored what it means to lead, discovered their why behind serving Omaha Bryan FFA, and began building the foundation for an incredible year. A huge thank you to Gifford Farms for welcoming us and providing such a great space for our officers to learn, collaborate, and grow. We truly appreciate your continued support of our chapter! 💙

Day 2 brought us back to Bryan High School, where it was time to get to work! Our officers jumped into event planning, record book organization, chapter goals, committee planning, and everything needed to kick off another successful FFA year. These two days were filled with leadership, teamwork, laughter, and lots of planning—and this is just the beginning. We can't wait to see what this officer team accomplishes this year!

What a great weekend representing Omaha Bryan FFA!

Our students spent the weekend volunteering at the Douglas County Fair Petting Zoo, helping with setup, caring for the animals, welcoming visitors, and making sure families had a fun experience. Their willingness to step up, work hard, and serve our community made the petting zoo a huge success.

We're proud of the leadership, responsibility, and positive attitude our members showed throughout the event. Thank you to everyone who stopped by the petting zoo, and thank you to the Douglas County Fair for giving our students this opportunity to serve and connect with the community.

We're proud to be Bryan Bears and even prouder to see our students making a difference beyond the classroom. 💙💛

We are officially at the halfway point of the summer. We know most don't want to think about school yet (including us teachers) so, instead, send us some pictures of your gardens, planters, and other plant projects! We want to seem them! Bonus points if you have plants bought from the Urban Ag Plant Sale in them!

Cheyenne Harms - Ag Educator attends CASE Conference and develops Soybean Curriculum for the classroom through a scholarship from the Nebraska Soybean Board.
University of Nebraska—Lincoln (Lincoln, NE)– Cheyenne Harms has completed a STEM-based CASE (Curriculum for AgriScience Education) training. The CASE AgXplore and Animal Health & Veterinary Science training provided a curriculum to agricultural education teachers. Through a scholarship provided by the Nebraska FFA Foundation and funded by the Nebraska Soybean Board, Cheyenne Harms is supplementing this STEM-based curriculum by using soybeans as a model, focus, and method for learning. This fall, Cheyenne Harms will implement this curriculum in their classroom by using soybeans across various segments of the AgXplore and Animal Health & Veterinary Science CASE curricula.
Through this curriculum, Cheyenne Harms will teach their students about the processes, benefits, and challenges of using soybeans in agriculture. Through CASE's AgXplore and Animal Health & Veterinary Science curriculum, students will discover how soybeans provide essential protein for livestock and pets, supporting growth, immunity, and overall wellness. By exploring animal nutrition and veterinary case studies, students see firsthand how soybean farmers help feed and care for animals while opening doors to careers in veterinary medicine, animal science, and agriculture.
“Through CASE, students will learn that soybeans don't stop at harvest—they become a valuable feed ingredient that supports animal health and wellness. These lessons help prepare the next generation of informed consumers and agricultural leaders,” says Ms. Harms.

We’re looking for students to help with setup, livestock shows, vendor assistance, guest assistance, kids' activities, and general fair support throughout the weekend. It’s a great way to get involved, meet people, support the community, and have fun while doing it.
