Visit Mandela as a part of this year’s Garden Walk!

Nelson Mandela Elementary is thrilled to be returning as one of nine participating gardens in the North Omaha Summer Arts annual Garden Walk. The event is from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 15, and it promises art, education, good bites, and free family fun from local conservators, gardeners, and farmers.

The route will begin at the Omaha Public Library Washington branch. As the fifth stop on the route, Mandela will be proud to showcase its greenhouse and outdoor classroom – spaces which were used throughout the summer for scholars’ gardening classes.

During their classes, they got to grow plants, herbs, and vegetables, learn about bees and pollinators, and taste many of the items directly from the garden in snacks, treats, and drinks. Mandela’s gardening program is run by Riannon Bell, who is also the school’s kitchen manager. The school is lucky to have her and her talents bringing the gardening spaces around the school to life.

Truck Bucks will be available for purchase at the blue information tent for $5. They are redeemable for one meal at any of the food trucks, with the exception of Spectrum Snoballs, which will be cash only.
