Thursday evening , Miss Sara Policky, South High’s Fashion Construction & Design teacher and proud University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) alumna, spoke at the Academic Planning Committee hearing in support of UNL’s Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design (TMFD) program.
Miss Policky shared the importance of TMFD’s connection to high school Fashion and FCS programs across Nebraska—like South’s annual Fashion Show and statewide student and teacher expos—but also spoke about something deeper: the impact of losing TMFD on our state’s creative future.
She emphasized that without this program, many talented and passionate students would be forced to leave Nebraska to pursue their dreams, taking their creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit with them.
❤️ We are proud of Miss Policky for using her voice to advocate for fashion education and the future of Nebraska’s creative industries

Nebraska friends & colleagues — UNL is considering cutting the Textiles, Merchandising, and Fashion Design (TMFD) program, the only Fashion Design B.S. in our state. TMFD has directly supported our students — even creating a South High–specific scholarship.
Not sure what to write? Here are a few quick options you can copy and paste:
Option 1
I am strongly opposed to the proposed elimination of UNL’s TMFD program, the only Fashion Design B.S. degree in Nebraska. Cutting this program limits opportunities for Nebraska students and pushes talent out of our state.
Option 2
Fashion is a global industry that connects creativity, business, sustainability, and technology. By cutting the TMFD program, UNL would be closing doors for Nebraska students to compete in this industry.
Option 3
The TMFD program is more than a degree — it’s a pipeline of skilled, creative professionals. Without it, Nebraska loses its only Fashion Design B.S. program and risks driving students out of state.
Let’s make sure Nebraska students can keep their future in fashion here at home in Nebraska.

Check out these spooky ghosts (and Maria!) proudly showing off their custom-designed fabrics! 🎨👻
Our third-year Textiles, Construction, and Design students used Adobe Illustrator to create unique repeating block patterns. After uploading their designs to a custom fabric printing site, their creations came to life! 🧵✨
We can’t wait to see how these fabrics transform into stunning pieces for their Spring collection! Stay tuned! 💃
