Congratulations, Becky Allen!

After 23 years of dedication and service to Clarkson College, Becky is retiring September 4. Her contributions to the College are innumerable, serving as Associate Professor, Interprofessional Learning Center Administrator, and most recently as Assistant Director of Undergraduate Nursing. She has served on committees, the College Affairs Council, and explored the world with the Academic Travel Abroad program.

For our August Service Spotlight, we are proud to recognize Dr. Christine Townsend, Undergraduate Nursing Assistant Professor, for her service to nursing students across Nebraska.

When the Nebraska Student Nursing Association needed a faculty consultant, Dr. Townsend stepped up. Elected by the Nebraska student board, she traveled with students to the National Student Nurses’ Association Conference in Houston in April, where she supported students as they explored topics including delegation, legislative action, debate, and the importance of having a voice in the nursing profession.

As the Nebraska chapter’s faculty consultant, Dr. Townsend will spend the coming year working alongside the student leadership board to strengthen and grow the state chapter, which was reestablished just last year. She is already helping students brainstorm new ideas and ways to ensure the organization continues to thrive.

Dr. Townsend's service reflects her commitment to supporting the next generation of nurses and empowering students to find their voice both within the profession and beyond. We are grateful for her willingness to step forward, mentor student leaders, and help build a stronger future for nursing in Nebraska.

Our Professional Development team is ready with courses designed for those with little or no healthcare experience to meet regulatory requirements (such as OSHA) for jobs requiring CPR training. Optional modules at no additional fee include child CPR, infant CPR, and infant choking. Blended learning and instructor-led class options are offered on campus or off-site.

Congratulations, Deanna Andersen! 🎓

Deanna earned a Health Information Management Certificate (Medical Coding). She chose Clarkson College because of its strong reputation in healthcare education and the flexibility it offered while she balanced work and family with school. “As a wife, mom of two and working professional,” Deanna explained, “I needed a program that challenged me while allowing me to continue pursuing my career goals. Clarkson College gave me the opportunity to grow professionally while preparing me for a meaningful career and health information management.”

She appreciated learning how health information management impacts every part of patient care. The support from faculty and the real-world experiences helped her build confidence and prepare for a career.

Deanna is pursuing a career in medical billing and revenue cycle management while continuing to grow her work in healthcare and wellness. She hopes to combine her healthcare knowledge with her passion for fitness and nutrition to improve lives in multiple ways.
