We will be closed today as we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Their courage and dedication remind us of the importance of community, opportunity, and service to others. Those values are what we strive to reflect every day through our work supporting students, educators, and families across Omaha Public Schools.

We are incredibly grateful to be part of something that gives students the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and hands on skills in the many areas involved in building a house. Watching them learn, grow, and take pride in their work is truly inspiring. Programs like this make such a meaningful impact by preparing students for future careers, teaching teamwork and responsibility, and showing them what they are capable of achieving. This is what it is all about, investing in students, building confidence, and creating opportunities for their future!

This past Wednesday, we had the honor of welcoming 15 outstanding OPS seniors to our office to celebrate their hard work, dedication, and achievements as recipients of Foundation scholarships! It was an inspiring afternoon filled with excitement, encouragement, and recognition for these students and the bright futures ahead of them.

We are equally excited and proud to support our Kids Club staff who are OPS seniors by offering scholarship opportunities that recognize their leadership, commitment, and the positive impact they make on our Kids Club students and programs every day!

To the early mornings, the endless patience, the creative lessons, the encouragement, and the way you show up for kids day after day... it does not go unnoticed. You’re shaping confidence, curiosity, and futures in ways that last far beyond the classroom.

We are so grateful for everything you do for our students and our community. Be sure to show a teacher some extra love this week!

Congratulations to the Career and Technical Pathway students who successfully completed their second house build!

Yesterday, alongside OPS, we proudly hosted an Open House to showcase the incredible craftsmanship, dedication, and teamwork demonstrated by these students.

Each year, students in this pathway collaborate to build a home from the ground up. They gain experience in every phase of the process, from designing blueprints and planning layouts to framing, electrical work, finishing, and everything in between. This is more than a project. It is an opportunity to develop valuable skills, explore career pathways, and take pride in creating something meaningful for the community.

We are incredibly proud of these students for their hard work and commitment, and we also want to extend our sincere thanks to the community partners and supporters who help make opportunities like this a reality.

Congratulations to Hugo Hernandez, the 2026 Cara Riggs Scholarship winner.

The late Cara Riggs, a former South High School Principal, made a lasting impact on the school community. Through her family’s continued support, her legacy will inspire students each year through the Cara Riggs Scholarship. This marks the first year the scholarship has been awarded, and it will continue to recognize South High seniors who demonstrate strong leadership skills.

As part of the application process, students nominate a South High teacher who exemplifies leadership and dedication both inside and outside the classroom. On his application, Hugo recognized South High PE teacher Mr. Felise. When asked why he chose Mr. Felise, Hugo shared that he appreciated how he created a supportive and relaxed environment while still encouraging growth.

Congratulations to Hugo and Mr. Felise. We are proud to celebrate both of you for your dedication and commitment to the South High community.
