CNC machines aren’t just about cutting wood.

They’re about learning how to design, problem solve, measure, prototype, troubleshoot and create something real with your own hands.

Inside the Prototype Design Lab at MCC, students get hands-on experience with tools and technologies that connect creativity with technical skill — building a portfolio of experience that can lead into careers like advanced manufacturing, fabrication, industrial design, machining, product development, construction technology, robotics, engineering support and skilled trades pathways.

As AI continues to reshape the economy, the ability to build, repair, operate and create in the physical world becomes even more valuable. The future still needs people who can think critically, work with technology and make ideas real.

The trades are evolving.
Modern manufacturing is evolving.
And the next generation of skilled workers will help build what comes next.

Ever wonder how the metal parts behind everyday products are actually made?

In our prototype design lab, we use a Hurco CNC machine—built by Hurco Companies—to turn raw blocks of metal into precise, real-world components. Using CNC machining (computer-controlled cutting), this technology shapes everything from brackets and housings to custom prototypes used in modern manufacturing.

Why does this matter?

Because skills like CNC machining are in high demand across industries—from advanced manufacturing to skilled trades. Learning how to operate equipment like this opens the door to careers that are hands-on, high-tech, and built for the future.

Whether you're starting fresh or looking to level up your skills, this is the kind of training that turns curiosity into career opportunity.
