Spring cleaning isn’t just for your home. Sometimes it’s for your emotional patterns, too.
Emotional reactivity happens when our emotions take the lead before we’ve had time to understand them. Emotional availability happens when we slow down enough to respond with intention. Both involve emotion, but only one creates space for connection.
What emotional habit might you want to clean out this season?

Put your defensiveness aside and listen well, but draw the line at insults or demeaning communications. There may be a time to sit through an initial blast, but not if rudeness has become a pattern in your relationship rather than an uncommon occurrence. Exit from a conversation that's at your expense while offering the possibility of another conversation. ("I want to hear what bothers you, but I need you to approach me with respect and not like I'm a big screwup").

Apologizing helps build trust; it is a core of any healthy relationship.
When we take the time to acknowledge our mistakes and the hurt they may have caused, we show our kids that their feelings MATTER 👏
