SOMOS ONE!!

2026 Viva Luncheon and BSF Scholarship Awards is in the BOOKS!

$73,000 in total awards
23 Total Scholarship Awards

This year marks another powerful milestone for the Barrientos Scholarship Foundation and our shared commitment to students, families, and the future of Nebraska.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our partners and sponsors whose belief and investment make this work possible:

Scholarship Sponsors:
Alvarez Insurance, Barrientos Family, Casa de la Cultura, CHI Health, Clarkson College, JE Dunn Construction, LEDC, Lozafina Marketing, Magic Touch Foundation, Methodist College, Nebraska Furniture Mart, and OPPD.

Event Sponsors (Viva Luncheon Host Support):
Habitat for Humanity, Lingo Docs, JE Dunn Construction, and Methodist College.

To our students and families—thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey. Your hard work, resilience, and ambition are the true purpose of this mission, and you continue to inspire everything we do.

To our volunteers, board members, Casa de la Cultura, and BSF team—your service, time, and heart are what turn vision into impact. A special thank you to MCC staff for helping create a meaningful, well-executed event experience for all.

We also extend sincere appreciation to civic leadership for their support and presence, including Mayor John Ewing, Deputy Chief of Staff Keith Station, and newly assigned leader Javier Saldana.

We would also like to recognize Jennifer Rodriguez, our South Omaha liaison, whose behind-the-scenes coordination—securing a video message from the Mayor and organizing representation from the Mayor’s Office—helped ensure their participation and connection to our students, even in her absence. Her work was essential to making this moment possible.

This year, through this collective effort, we proudly awarded 23 scholars from across the state of Nebraska a total of $73,000 in scholarships. Since our founding in 2005—when Marcos Mora began this vision with just $500 and a dream—the Barrientos Scholarship Foundation has now awarded more than $600,000 in scholarships.

This is what community looks like when it comes together with purpose, consistency, and belief in the next generation.

NEBRASKA LEADERS, FAMILIES, and STUDENTS — CONGRATULATIONS! 💜

We are proud to recognize our 2026 Barrientos Scholarship Foundation scholars while also honoring the legacy of the Magic Touch Scholarship Foundation and the Sandoval Family, whose story reminds us that hope, love, and generosity can shape generations.

The Magic Touch Scholarship Foundation was created in memory of Matthew “Tito” and Ruth Sandoval — honoring their belief that the simplest acts of kindness, encouragement, and sacrifice could make people feel seen, valued, and inspired to dream bigger. Through family traditions rooted in love, giving back, creating joy, and investing in others became a way of life that continues today through the memory of Eddie Sandoval, the entire Sandoval Family, and future generations.

Their example reminds us that true leadership is about creating hope for others. Today, that spirit lives on through scholarships helping students pursue education, leadership, and opportunity for their families and our Nebraska community.

Congratulations to Lucia Venegas, Allison Arriga, Johnny Barriga Barajas, Antonio Vargas, and all 23 outstanding 2026 scholarship recipients! Your hard work, perseverance, and commitment to your future continue inspiring our community and proving that dreams supported by family, culture, and opportunity can create lasting impact.

Thank you to the Magic Touch Scholarship Foundation, the Sandoval Family, our sponsors, and every community partner helping us continue building future leaders for Nebraska.
