Omaha Northwest High Magnet School was completed in 1971 and is still the newest of the seven high schools in the OPS district. Northwest has had 6 principals - Jack Hallstrom, Frank Bell, Bernice Nared, Herman Colvin, Thomas Lee, and the current principal, Kimberly Jackson. Its mascot is the Husky.

Congratulations to Sania Childs, recipient of the Frank Hanel Memorial Scholarship! 🎓
This scholarship honors the legacy of Frank Hanel, who taught at Northwest from 1971–1995 and was known by many alumni as Northwest’s first Varsity Football Coach. In tribute to his lifelong commitment to education, the Hanel scholarship was established to support students pursuing careers in education-related fields such as teaching, counseling, and educational administration.
Sania, we’re so proud of you and can’t wait to see how you’ll carry forward this legacy of leadership and service in education.

Look who just sprinted in with a gold medal - our scholarship recipient Imani! Brains, speed, and sparkle? We're so proud!
Another day, another Gold Medal 🥇 for Imani Skanes! Congratulations on earning 1st place on her final attempt in the Class A Girls Triple Jump! Her mark of 39-0.75 brings her to a career total of 4 State Meet Golds! Pictured with her Coach, Jamel Bradford.

Northwest High School alumni remember the legacy of Bill Olson, former baseball coach and math teacher, who dedicated 25 years of service to Northwest students. A 2004 inductee into the Northwest Hall of Fame, Coach Olson led six State Championship teams and the 1983 National Championship team, leaving an indelible mark on the athletic program. His outstanding leadership and impact on student-athletes earned him the title of National High School Coach of the Year three times during his tenure. Coach Olson was a mentor, role model, and a pillar of the Northwest community. His passion for teaching and coaching inspired generations of students. Frank Hanel Scholarship
Mr. Hanel taught at Northwest from 1971 - 1995. With Frank's lifelong commitment to education, his family is honoring his memory with a scholarship.
One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Northwest senior or Northwest Alum. Applicants must be intending to enroll or currently enrolled in a program within the College of Education.
