Every Friday, WhyArts teaching artist Katy Jones spends the morning at DUET Happenings, leading a community‑driven mural project that brings color, creativity, and connection to the space.
DUET Happenings is a weekly program where adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities come together for social activities, arts engagement, and opportunities to build confidence through creative expression. It’s a place centered on belonging — and the mural is becoming a vibrant reflection of that mission.
Katy’s mural sessions invite participants to help shape the imagery, choose colors, and add their own marks to the mural. The process is collaborative and intentionally inclusive, giving DUET Happenings artists a chance to see their ideas represented in a permanent, public way. For many, contributing to the mural is a meaningful source of pride and a reminder that their creativity matters.
The mural will serve as a lasting symbol of the community DUET Happenings fosters each week. As it grows, it celebrates the voices, stories, and shared imagination of the participants — and highlights WhyArts’ commitment to accessible, joyful arts engagement.
Thank you, DUET Happenings!
