Morning Star Preschool & Child Care Center

As I walked through the door of Morning Star Preschool on October 25,2005 little did I know what an impact those 30 minutes I spent with Jamie would change my life. I felt a sense of being welcomed, cared about and listened to. Little do the families and staff (who have become family), know how many life changes they have seen me through without even knowing it (the loss of my parents,my mother in law and other family members all 3 of daughters getting married, 6 of 7 of grandchildren being born, a nephew and sister in law being in life threatening accidents, so,so many great nieces and nephews being born).I knew you were all there if I needed you.
As I welcomed each new parent and white star to special fold, I would always look at them and wonder when they will meet each milestone. Each time one was met I was so excited!
I am not one to show to emotion but my feelings and emotions run deep. Someday when I least expect it all my feelings about Morning Star will come out. I will miss every parent and Child more than you can imagine.
My first day at Morning Star was October 31,2005 and my last day will be October 31, 2025 exactly 20 years later.
The best to all of you; you will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce after 40+ years of operation, Morning Star Preschool and Childcare Center will be closing its doors on October 31, 2025. While we are all deeply saddened and have been processing this news, one thing has become apparent. Morning Star has built an incredible community all across Omaha. From staff, students, and parents both current and former, we have been so truly blessed to have been part of all of your journeys. The amount of support our staff and families have received from the Omaha Childcare community these past few days has been truly humbling and awe inspiring.
From every milestone, every hug, every laugh, and every Star we have sent on to new adventures, we thank you for all of it. Being part of your families and this community has truly been an honor. And in the coming weeks as we prepare to say goodbye, we will continue to do what we’ve always done best - fill the days with as much love and happiness as we can.

Sometimes the best opportunities to learn come from right outside your classroom window!
Our oldest PreK learners had lots of questions about the flowers right outside their classroom, so we gathered up some art supplies and decided to enjoy the sunshine while making art inspired by the nature right in front of our building!

Our tomato plants have been so abundant this summer! Chef had some extra hands to help her pick a nice harvest that she used for today’s lunch of flatbread pizzas! It’s been wonderful to see the kids excited to try new things all because they had a hand in growing them!

What a lovely day to make dirt cakes with friends!

Our Purple Stars (oldest infants), were able to get out and enjoy a nice stroll through our relaxing garden area this afternoon. We got to look at lots of beautiful plants, hear the birds chirping, and soak up some sunshine!

What a beautiful morning to spend outside! While our youngest toddlers took a break from their busy play in the house on our Kevin’s World playground, our youngest preschoolers were busy observing a large cicada shell they discovered on the fence trying to answer some important questions… How was there nothing inside and why was it hanging upside down?

Life is good when your food is prepared by an Italian that knows the best secret ingredient is always a little extra love ❤️ Chef Nickie is a trained Chef that strives to introduce our kids to new recipes and ingredients in fun and approachable ways. Today’s lunch of Italian Subs had her sitting at the tables and getting the kids to try the meatballs with her. For snack, she prepared a delicious bruschetta made with tomatoes from our playground garden.

Why is play doh so important? Not only does it help promote our creative brain, but it is so important in our pre-writing development too! From our fingers all the way up to our shoulders, this simple activity encourages our muscle movement and helps us gain all that fine motor strength! 💪
