Transparency alert! Hereâs a breakdown of student fees related to UPF (University Programs and Facilities). Every year, students pay hundreds of dollars in fees, a small portion of which contributes to Fund A dollars (these are student fee-funded Tier 1 organizations). Last year, students paid a total of $521.60 in UPF fees, of which only $21.60 were Fund A dollars, approved and voted on by students via the student government elections.
This year, there will be a decrease in student feesâwoohoo! This doesnât mean resources will diminish; rather, through the Student Budget Activities Commission, which is promoted and advertised on the student platform MavSync, determined the best way to spend student dollars wisely for the broader population by offering a wide variety of resources, some of which you might not realize actually come from Fund A.
Fund A is created and managed through an annual democratic budgeting process, allowing students to submit their concerns and ideas for these organizations each year.
Fund B and other campus fees and funding do not involve students at all. This highlights opportunities for students like you to advocate for increased participation in decision-making regarding how your money is spent at the university, given that you only engage with a small portion of the total $1B+ operating budget.
Interested in being a part of the impact these dollars has on the entire UNO student body? Consider joining Student Government and its Agencies, Gateway, and Maverick Productions.
