Mrs. McCormick's PreK Class

Mrs. McCormick's PreK Class This is Mrs. McCormick's PreK Class page for Mockingbird Elementary in Ralston Public Schools. This year is going to be an adventure. My favorite color is GREEN!

We are proudly serving children in a variety of ways at Ralston in our Early Childhood Education programming. We have made many changes in order to give our students the best preparation for their school careers. If you have questions about our programming, please feel free to ask or refer to the Parent Handbook. My favorite superhero is Iron Man. My favorite sports team is the St. Louis Cardinals

. My favorite sport is baseball. My favorite foods are bacon, fried chicken, cheesecake and coffee. My favorite thing to do in my free time is read and hang out with my family. I absolutely LOVE teaching in Ralston Public Schools. Before teaching, I earned a BA in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations and Marketing from Bradley University. Using that degree, I worked within the St. Louis Cardinals baseball organization in the minor leagues as a public relations specialist. I also worked for the Milwaukee Wave of the Major Indoor Soccer League as the Director of Public & Media Relations. I am at school from 7:45 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. If you need me during those hours, please don't hesitate to call (402) 331-6954. If you need me anytime other than office hours, I can be reached at my mobile office number: (402) 915-3258. I use my mobile office number to contact parents via calling and text. I also have a family of my own, so I may not be able to return a phone call or text until the next business day. Thank you for your understanding. To contact me otherwise, scroll up and click the "Send Email" button. Thanks for choosing Mockingbird!

Today we tried seaw**d!

As part of our curriculum, we read a book called, "The Adventures of Gary and Harry". It's about two sea turtles who are friends despite not liking the same things. Gary eats sea w**d, and Harry prefers jellyfish. When they have a jellyfish emergency, Harry becomes cautious and decides to try Gary's favorite snack - so we tried it, too!!

Some of us loved it, and some of us didn't.

And we learned exactly what Gary & Harry learned: even though we might be different, like different things, do different things, look different, speak differently, etc. - we can still be friends!

We have been working really hard to learn how to be at school.

This has included learning how to accept NO as an answer, how to keep our hands and bodies to ourselves, how to get someone's attention appropriately, how to speak up for ourselves and tell someone to STOP when we don't like it, etc.

It's also included exploring new materials, new ways to play, new games, etc. It's included a lot of FUN, too!!

Please check your student's backpack for our very first Scholastic Book order flyer that we've sent home. All orders must be placed online, and it's quite easy to do once you've created your account.

Scholastic book orders will come home 3 or 4 times this year - and it's a great way to build a little library of inexpensive books for your house that you can read over and over again!

Looking ahead at the weekend... We are going to be sending your student's blankets & water bottles home for a good washing in hot water to get rid of germs. Please return both blankets and your student's water bottle all clean back to school on Monday.

The giant ziplock bag labeled with your student's face and name is our storage & transportation bag for their blankets and water bottle. Please make sure the clean blankets and clean water bottle comes back to school inside that same bag!

Be on the lookout for that this weekend!!
