The latest installment of "Singing with Peggy" is now on Youtube. This episode offers some new resources for working on alignment and releasing tensions that could restrict the resonator - the vocal tract. There are new exercises for dealing with tongue and jaw tension and a discussion about finding balance between hypofunctional and hyperfunctional habits. (It's not as scary as the preview makes it look). Information about sources will be posted in the comment section.

A new episode of "Singing in Peggy" is now available! This is an introduction to resonance: a complex and somewhat difficult to understand topic that includes some exercise to prepare a general "posture" of the vocal tract for optimal resonance. It is the first of several lessons on resonance. The video preview shows me demonstrating why nasal singing is not "resonance!"

New episode of "Singing with Peggy." All about vowels and exercises for exploring what defines each vowel sound and how to keep a consistent vocal quality between vowel sounds. The "vowel ladder" exercises use the Latin vowel sounds in this order: [u ɔ i ɛ ɑ] (oo, oh, ee, eh, ah). The poster diagram of the vocal tract is from Pst...Inc. You can find the vowel quadrangle and a diagram of its placement inside the oral cavity in the comments section.

This is fascinating, but something we as singers know about all ready. In Episode 5 of Singing with Peggy, I will discuss the topic of "nasal breathing" and a bit about how the posture-breath exercises introduced earlier are beneficial beyond the application to singing.
How The 'Lost Art' Of Breathing Can Impact Sleep And Resilience While researching his book, Breath, James Nestor participated in a study in which his nose was completely plugged for 10 days, forcing him to breathe solely through his mouth. "I felt awful," he says.

Episode 3 of "Singing with Peggy" is now available. This session expands upon the previous posture-breath session and explains more about breath management. It includes some beginning breathing exercises that you can perform along with the video. Watch for written materials in the comment section to supplement the video.
